Description

A wonderful opportunity to see two of Hamilton’s official waterfalls not normally accessible to the public while enjoying the flora and fauna of this private property.

Located in rural Hamilton, the 77-acre property boasts two lesser cascade type waterfalls fed by Fairchild Creek, a variety of interesting plants - wild and cultivated – intriguing indigenous and settler history, and in spring migration over 100 species of birds passing through or nesting. Autumn offers an opportunity to experience the roaring water of the falls as well as catch some late autumn bird migrants while exploring the trails. While this property is not part of the official Bruce Trail, it offers a unique experience for BTC members to visit the area just outside of the Dundas Valley section of the Iroquoia club trail.

This hike is a "walk, stop, listen/observe" type of hike where we’ll meander along the cut trails to the falls and see what birds might be lingering or stopping over on their migration journey. This hike will be about 2 hours in duration.

Weather can be variable at this time of year – dress according to the day’s condition. Binoculars would be helpful. Wear a hat, long-sleeved shirt/pants, and waterproof closed-toed shoes with socks. Bring a light backpack to carry water, snacks, and personal materials. Though this is a short hike, the terrain can be rocky and uneven in places and wet and muddy near the creek/falls.

No dogs permitted.
