Come by car or public transit to enjoy this welcoming, 2SLGBTQIA+ friendly Rainbow Hike from Smokey Hollow Waterfall to Waterdown Woods and beyond.
Today's in-and-out hike (about 12–13 kilometres) follows the Bruce Trail Main Trail, with detours along King Side Trail, Ian Reid Side Trail and any other path that promises brilliant fall foliage. We'll take it one leaf at a time. Yuckah! Yuckah!
Please arrive at the Smokey Hollow parking lot, 80 Mill St. South by 9:15 a.m. for a 9:30 a.m. start.
By public transit: There are various HSR options that will take you to Smokey Hollow Waterfall. One popular route from Aldershot GO station is to hop on the local No. 18 Burlington bus and get off at "Mill at Mountain Brow," a 5-minute walk to the Smokey Hollow parking lot. From downtown Hamilton: Take the No. 1 "East to Appleby GO" from King Street to Plains Road at Waterdown intersection, where you will transfer to the No. 18 (which stops at Aldershot and continues to the Smokey Hollow stop).
Coming by car: There is free parking at Smokey Hollow, which will fill up early. Lots of hikers will be out Thanksgiving weekend. If the lot is full: You can park closer to downtown Waterdown and walk to the meeting spot at Smokey Hollow Waterfall, 80 Mill St. PLEASE allow yourself enough time to sort out your parking so you can arrive at the Smokey Hollow parking lot by 9:15 a.m. at the latest.
Post-hike refreshments: The Royal Coachman in Waterdown is a favourite among Bruce Trail hikers. Local brews and non-alcoholic beverages are available.
No carpool is arranged for this hike, which is easily accessible by public transit.
What to bring: 1 litre (minimum) of water and lunch/energizing snacks. Hiking boots or sturdy footwear are recommended. Dress in layers. Always bring some kind of rain gear.
