Description
Step into the serenity of the evening and experience the magic of sunset from the spectacular Jones Bluff in Neyaashiinigmiing.
Join the Peninsula Bruce Trail Club Sunshine Series on Sunday, October 18th for a peaceful evening hike along the Main Trail and Jones Bluff Side Trail, where we’ll take in the stunning views of Neyaashiinigmiing and watch the sun set behind Sydney Bay.
This hike is an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with nature, breathe in the fresh evening air, and experience the landscape in a completely different light. Whether you’re a dedicated sunset chaser, a photography enthusiast, or simply someone who loves a good adventure, this is a beautiful way to end the day.
The Sunshine Series offers opportunities to experience both the rising and setting sun from the Bruce Trail in a safe and welcoming environment. On this evening adventure, we’ll take our time to enjoy the changing light, take photographs, and simply savour the experience of being outdoors as the day transitions into night.
The Hike
We’ll hike approximately 8 km along the Main Trail and Jones Bluff Side Trail, taking in the sunset from a beautiful vantage point overlooking Sydney Bay.
Expect to be on the trail for approximately 3-4 hours. The pace will be leisurely to moderate, with ample time to enjoy the scenery, experience the sunset, take photographs, and nourish yourself through the experience.
As the sun disappears, we’ll make our way back along the trail in the dusky twilight. Please be prepared for changing light conditions. We’ll be hiking in darkness for a portion of the return journey.
How to Prepare
To make the most of your evening on the trail, please come prepared:
- Bring plenty of water and a snack to keep yourself fueled throughout the hike.
- Bring a headlamp or flashlight, preferably with a red-light setting. This is essential for the return portion of the hike as we’ll be finishing in twilight.
- Dress appropriately for the weather and bring an extra warm layer. October evenings can become chilly once the sun goes down.
- Wear sturdy, waterproof hiking boots. The Bruce Trail can be rocky, uneven, muddy, and wet, particularly in the fall.
- Hiking poles are recommended, but not necessary.
- Check the weather forecast before heading out and dress accordingly.
Most importantly, come prepared to slow down, be present, and enjoy the experience. There will be plenty of time to pause, take in the views, capture photographs, and appreciate the transition from daylight to dusk.
