Description

Join us for a Bioblitz at the Riverside Woods Property.  A bioblitz is a communal effort to record as many species within a designated location and time period as possible using the iNaturalist community science app. iNaturalist data is used to collect biodiversity data that can be used by land stewards, trail captains, property owners and conservation staff at the Bruce Trail Conservancy. You will be out on this 1-5 km nature walk with others that are interested in slowing down and observing nature.

If  you have never used iNaturalist or if you are an experienced user, we will be making observations of rare, common and invasive species.  You can use a cell phone or camera.  We will offer an introduction session at the beginning for those that are new to iNaturalist.  Experienced users will be able to hit the trail after a brief intro.

Optional: Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy with the group after the hike and have a chance to ask questions and compare notes.

When you register for the hike, we will email you instructions on how to download and set up your iNaturalist account to be ready the day of the hike .

Wear comfortable, sturdy shoes, dress for the weather, bring sunscreen, bug spray, water and a phone or camera.  A  battery charger for your phone may be useful.

Observations made this day can count towards achieving your Citizen Scientist Badge from the Caledon Hills Club.  Details on the Citizen Scientist Badge can be found here  https://caledonbrucetrail.ca/hiking/club-badges/citizen-scientist-badge/

No dogs please.

Looking forward to seeing you at Riverside Woods.
