Description
This is it — the fourth and final hike of our Dufferin Hi-Land End-to-End.
We begin at Prince of Wales Road near 20 Sideroad and hike north through the Black Bank area toward Lavender.
Today's route passes through some memorable northern Dufferin Hi-Land countryside, including forest, ravines, open fields and rural landscapes. The terrain includes several substantial climbs and descents and may be rocky, muddy or slippery.
Our vehicles will be parked at Lavender Cemetery, which is approximately 0.6 km before the official Dufferin Hi-Land/Blue Mountains section boundary. To complete the entire Dufferin Hi-Land section, we will continue from the cemetery to the section boundary at Lavender and return to the vehicles. This adds approximately 1.2 km to the day's walking distance, bringing the total to approximately 15.4 km.
This small out-and-back allows us to use an established Bruce Trail parking location while still ensuring that everyone completing all four hikes has walked the full Dufferin Hi-Land section.
This is a point-to-point hike requiring a car shuttle. Please arrive by 8:30 a.m. with your vehicle passenger-ready. We plan to begin the shuttle at approximately 8:45 and start hiking at approximately 9:00. Everyone is expected to participate in the car shuttle once or twice during the 4 days hike.
Hiking boots or sturdy hiking shoes are required and hiking poles are strongly recommended. November conditions may include wet leaves, mud, cold temperatures or ice, so come prepared for the conditions of the day.
Bring approximately 2 litres of water, lunch and snacks.
Hikers completing all four hikes will have travelled the entire Dufferin Hi-Land section of the Bruce Trail from Mono Centre to the Blue Mountains section boundary at Lavender.
Congratulations — approximately 55 kilometres of the Bruce Trail completed!
