We will follow the path that railway engineers used to descend the escarpment into Dundas Valley Conservation Area, then we will explore some trails in the valley, finally returning via the rail trail to our starting point. Park along the roadside on Slote Rd near the intersection with Mineral Springs Rd. Please bring enough water, snacks and a lunch. There are washrooms in the Dundas Valley trail centre — we will eat lunch there. We will hike about 15 km return. Please check the weather and dress accordingly — wear hiking boots or trail runners, a hat with a brim, and bring sunscreen. The hike will run, rain or shine.

Please join Grimsby Mayor, Jeff Jordan for the Mayor’s Walk. This hike will take us from the parking lot, up Gibson Street and up the Iroquoia Bruce Trail and around to the hawk watch area and back to the pool parking lot. Please expect the distance to be about 4-6km and to take up to 2 hours. The hike up the hill is strenuous and would not be suitable for individuals who are not used to climbing. If you’d like to avoid the uphill climb, you can meet us in the parking area off of Quarry Rd. We should arrive there at about 10:30-10:45am. Your hike will be shorter. Please bring enough water and snacks and wear suitable hiking footwear.

There is one rocky but flat section as well as one hill. We will likely encounter some areas which have washout damage from flooding. We should also see some Spring Ephemerals. Bring water, a snack, sunscreen and insect repellent. Poles not necessary unless you like using them for upper body exercise and balance. This hike has been rescheduled due to a conflict of dates on the part of the leader.

The good news: You’ll climb only one and dance down the other. From the bottom of Wentworth Stairs, we’ll follow the flat Escarpment Rail Trail all the way to the historic Uli Stairs, which we’ll climb up to Mountain Brow. Upon reaching the top, we’ll take a break, stretch, have a snack and gulp some water before we saunter along the Mountain Brow path to Margate Stairs. There, we’ll descend to the Rail Trail, and head back to the starting point at Wentworth. Bring water and energizing snacks—especially if you’ve come directly from work. Insect repellent is a good idea, too. Consider this 8-km weeknight hike good training for longer weekend hikes.

We start in the lovely Driving Park and work our way through suburbs and the heritage district to the Spencer Creek Trail. Our route follows as much of the trail as possible down to the Desjardins Canal . The curiously named and seldom seen Lake JoJo is next followed by tiny Delsey Pond. We loop through Grove Cemetery before dropping down Helen St. back to the Driving Park. Bring lawn chairs and a lunch and some refreshments for a picnic social when we finish.

We will then hike in and back on the Walking Fern Side Trail. A challenging trail for footwork but is well worth it. Then it’s back up the main trail to the Roberts Side Trail to the cars. This hike has some crazy rocky spots and a few hilly bits. Come with water and a snack and bug spray.

Come by car or HSR transit for this all-inclusive/LGBTQ-friendly hike from downtown Dundas to the top of Dundas Peak/Spencer Gorge with time to explore both Tew and, possibly, Webster’s Falls. FYI: Dundas Peak is an estimated 340 metres (1,100 feet) above sea level. Awesome views. We’ll rendezvous no later than 9:20 a.m. beside the parking lot at Ed & Shawn’s Brewery (65 Hatt St., off Sydenham.) Look for me in olive-green Bruce Trail cap near the benches outside the TD Bank (far end of the parking lot). Bonus for drivers: Parking is free in Dundas on Saturdays. Tip: If you arrive early or need to use the loo before hiking, Starbucks (45 King St. W., downtown Dundas) is a 2-minute walk around the corner from parking lot. Coming by bus? There are two options: 05-HEAD STREET via DOWNTOWN DUNDAS and 5B -PIRIE AT GOVERNORS, depending where you are coming from. Ensure you arrive no later than 9:20 a.m.) Bus fares: $2.50-3.50. The hike: From the parking lot at Ed and Shawn’s Brewery, we’ll head up Sydenham Street to Cascade Park and follow the Tew Fall Lookout Trail all the way up to the top of the escarpment, with stops at the Dundas Peak and Tew Falls lookouts. You have two options of hike lengths: For those who would like to hike an extra 3 km to Webster Falls and back (1.5 km each way), we’ll do so via Harvest Road & Short Road, and have lunch at Webster’s Falls (for a 13 km hike). Your other option is to explore longer and have your lunch at Tew Falls. The “Webster’s” group will rejoin you on their way back. We’ll partially retrace our route back along the top of the peak with a detour via Glen Ferguson Trail before we head back down to Dundas, where we can reward ourselves with a pint or other post-hike beverage. It’ll be relatively easy to take one of two bus routes to return to downtown Hamilton. Please bring at least 2 litres of water, energizing snacks and lunch. Lots to do on this hike: • Chill by a burbling creek • Photograph a couple waterfalls • Enjoy a moment of reflection at a special Indigenous site, The Bear Meeting Place • And, possibly, climb an escarpment stairs—it’s optional! • Burn calories (hence, the escarpment stairs). Aim to arrive by 6:15 pm for a 6:30 pm start at the Red Hill Valley Trail South Parking Lot, Mud Street and Pritchard. This is a loop hike — we’ll start and end at this parking lot. The Red Creek Valley area is home to various trails: the Bruce Trail, Waterfront Trail, TransCanada Trail… Tonight’s route will include the Mud Street Side Trail, Red Hill Creek Side Trail, Mohawk Side Trail and Mountain Brow Side Trail. Please bring at least one full litre of water and an energizing snack. Everyone guzzled all of their liquid on the last weeknight hike. There is an accomplishment badge included in the registration fee – which was designed by Joe Borges. It depicts the tenacious cedar and is featured along the Beaver Valley section of trail in many spots. The fee goes towards supporting the Beaver Valley Bruce Trail Club, which in turn supports the mission of the Bruce Trail Conservancy, which is: “Preserving a ribbon of wilderness, for everyone, forever.” For this E2E in 6, we will be following the main trail southbound starting near Blantyre and finishing in Swiss Meadows. Please note that you are signing up for the entire series of six hikes as a Group Hike. This series is geared to experienced hikers with the expectation of a 4.0 to 5.0 km/hr pace maintained over the hike distances below. This hike is intended to be at a Brisk pace and through a very hilly section. Please be honest about your degree of physical fitness prior to registration. It is a group hike so it is important you are able to keep pace with the person in front of you. Hikers will be expected to wear proper hiking footwear and layered clothing. Sufficient snacks, water, electrolytes, hiking poles, and bug-resistent gear are recommended. This series will require car shuttling, so you must be willing to drive and be a passenger. A maximum of 2 of the 6 hikes can be self-completed as a result of scheduling challenges. You must still complete the distance you have missed. If you miss more than one but still complete the distances on your own, you may apply for the Beaver Valley Club’s regular End to End badge. Please note there are no refunds!

This hike, both exhilarating and rewarding, will take us along a 16.5 km loop that showcases the wonders of the Bruce Peninsula section. Our journey begins at the Cemetery Rd parking lot, where we’ll set off hiking counterclockwise on the main trail. Along the way, we’ll visit incredible landmarks including Gun Point, McKay Harbour, Lion’s Head Point, and the spectacular Lookout. Experience the thrill of crossing the 45th parallel twice, a reminder that you’re in a truly remarkable location. As the trail winds its way through awe-inspiring vistas and tranquil scenery, we’ll eventually connect to the Ilse Hanel Side Trail, leading us back to our starting point. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or simply looking for a challenge, this loop offers the perfect blend of beauty and endurance, promising countless moments of discovery and joy. If you crave adventure and long hikes with unforgettable rewards, this experience is not to be missed! Expectations: This is a difficult hike but we’ll hike at various paces to allow ourselves to enjoy and immerse in an endless beauty of this exploration. Expect to be on-trail 6.5- 7 hours. Breaks will be taken for lunch, snacks, photography and to appreciate the scenery. Meeting Time: Please arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to the scheduled time. Participant Requirements: - Intermediate/experienced hikers, comfortable with longer distances and elevation gains.
- Must be physically fit for group hiking and mentally prepared for an endurance hike
- Proper hiking boots, layered clothing, and wet weather gear. Hiking poles recommended
- Essentials: Lunch, snacks, water (2L min) , bug spray, sunscreen and your enthusiasm
- Breaks for photography and appreciation of local flora and fauna.

There are hilly parts and plenty of rocks and roots. Bring water and a snack/lunch. If you would like to carpool from Mississauga, I am happy to have a few people ride with me.
