Description

Join us for the first of two days hiking in the Hockley Valley.  Lots of ups and downs, hilly and strenuous, but rewarding.  The woods are lush and enchanting at this time of year.  We will shuttle to the Bruce Trail parking on Hockley Road near 2nd Line EHS, hike up the Main Trail to the Tom East Side Trail then hike back to 5th Line EHS on the Main Trail.  Please bring at least 3L of water, sunscreen, bug spray, a fully stocked first aid kit, a snack, a lunch, an appreciation of nature and a smile.  Please be at the Bruce Trail parking on 5th Line at 8:15 am ready to shuttle at 8:30 am.  If you need to cancel, please email me on this platform so that we are not waiting for you.

Description

Join us on Day Two of a journey through the famous (and tough!) Hockley Valley.  We will meet on Dunby Road then shuttle to the Mono Centre Community Centre.  From there we will hike north to meet the Main Trail then take the Main Trail south to take in the Cam Snell and Isabel East Side Trails.  We be hiking the end of the Caledon Section and a touch of the Dufferin Section.  Please bring at least 3L of water, sun screen, bug spray, a fully loaded first aid kit, a snack, a lunch, an appreciation of nature and a smile.  Kinda like life, lots of ups and downs, but at least we’ll be in the woods.  Please be at Dunby Road at 8:15 am ready to shuttle at 8:30 am.

Meet at CityView Park On Hwy 5 and Kerns Rd Burlington.We meet at the South Parking lot. Don’t go to the North parking lots near the soccer fields.

Note the early start time of 9-00 a.m. to beat the heat.

Snack stop at Fisher Pond but no need to carry lunch. We’ll have our lunch back at the cars when we finish.

Description

Please join me on an 18.5 km long, hot, strenuous hike in the Blue Mountains this Friday, June 8.  Lots of serious ups and downs.  We will meet at 9 am at Duntroon (Map 22, km 37.4) then shuttle promptly at 9 am to the new BTC parking (fee required) at the Petun CA (near km 55.7, Map 23).  There is a lot of elevation to traverse and it will be hot so please bring 3L water minimum.  Sunscreen and bug spray recommended (in that order).  Given the price of gas and our commitment to the environment, please consider carpooling.

We will be done about 4:30 pm or thereabouts so please don’t make any commitments immediately thereafter.

Description

Join us for a leisurely hike in the Halton Agreement Forest. This “lollipop” hike will have us walking up the stick, around the lollipop and back down the stick. (In other words we will hike out, complete a loop at the top and then back to our original start point. There may be some lollipops at the end.) Meet in the northeastern corner of the Woodbine/Mowhawk Casino parking lot, on the west side of  Guelph Line, north of Highway 401, across from the entrance to the forest. Please meet at 9:15 for a 9:30 start. Bring water, a snack, insect repellent, and sunscreen. Poles may be useful. The forest is lush and green and in hot weather, can be cool. (There may be some lollipops at the end.)

Description

This hike replaces the one rained out on June 29. Meet in the lower parking lot at Rattlesnake Point, on the west side of Appleby Line, above Derry Rd. at 9:45 am. for a 10:00 am. start. You must make a reservation with Halton Region Conservation Authority. Our hike today will take us north along main Bruce Trail and Conservation Area trail to the Leech-Porter Side Trail where we will descend to the bottom of Nassagaweya Canyon. We will then follow main Bruce Trail south.  There is a lot to see in this gorgeous area with a creek, soaring escarpment, flat woodlands and the former Buffalo compound. We will then ascend back to the top of the escarpment and return to our start. Bring water, a snack, insect repellent and sunscreen. Poles are useful.

Join me to walk the trails of the Sixteen Mile Creek Valley in Oakville. Summer is upon us and the valley looks so different with its lush growth and newer wildflowers. It is rich with history. Meet in the parking lot on the southeast corner of Neyagawa Blvd. and River Glen (next to the baseball fields) at 9:15 am. for a 9:30 am. start. (Meet point is between Upper Middle Rd. and Highway 5.) Bring water, a snack, sunscreen and insect repellent. There are a number of long, gentle hills so poles might be useful. Optional refreshment stop after the hike.

Join us on a hot but rewarding hike from the Nottawasaga Bluffs to Duntroon via Devil’s Glen.  There will be a serious descent and then a serious steep climb up the Mad River Valley.  There will be bugs and it will be hot for sure.  Lots of woods and a special piece of new trail just south of Duntroon.  Parking fees applicable.  Please bring lots of water (3L) and a bottle of Gatorade for the electrolytes.  Please bring a hat, snack, a lunch, bug spray, sunscreen, an appreciation of nature and a smile.  Please consider carpooling.
