We will take in part of the Bruce Trail and several DVCA trails. Lots of ups and downs and waterfalls. Please bring a warm drink, water, a snack for “elevensies”, lunch, hiking boots, poles and lots of smiles. Entrance fee to DVCA in effect at gate. Please arrive at 9:00 to be ready to hike at 9:15. We will hike two loops to allow folks to drop out after the first 10 kms if they would like.

The area surrounding the parking lot requires some natural restoration. We will be pulling burdock plants and replacing them with a variety of native tree species. If time permits, a short hike of the area will occur after planting. Please bring water, sturdy boots or shoes and gloves if you have them. Shovels will be provided.

Map 20. Meet at roadside parking on Prince of Wales Rd. (County Rd. 19) where the Primrose Loop Side Trail crosses Prince of Wales Rd. From Primrose (intersection of Hwy 10 and 89) drive north for about 1.5 km. Parking is about 0.7 km north of the bridge on the east side of the road. We will then return to Prince of Wales Rd. The short hike will end after completing the Primrose Loop Side Trail. Bring water and snacks.

The trail is mostly flat and under forest cover. We will stop at several viewpoints and natural features along the way. After the hike those interested may gather at a local establishment for refreshments. To get to the meeting point go north on Hwy 10 past Orangeville to County Rd 8 (Mono Centre Road). Proceed east about 6 km to Mono Centre. The parking area for the community centre is 200 meters south of the T-intersection if you go too far. The entrance to the parking area is on your right just before a tennis court.

Where the trail crosses 6th side rd we will head west for 500 meters to pick up the Russ McConnell Side Trail south bound. We will re- join the main trail where these trails again intersect. A short while later we will then follow the Pretty River Side Trail to where it again intersects with the main trail. We will then follow the main trail back to Pretty River Road where we will head east back to the parking lot. Please be prepared for the weather, we will hike rain or shine. Ensure you have enough water, lunch and snacks, sunscreen and bug repellent. Hats and sunglasses are recommended as are poles and sturdy shoes. For those wishing to earn their 7 Rivers – complete all 7 hikes, badges will be available on the last day from the hike leaders at a cost of $10 for members and $15 for non members. Anyone completing make-up hikes may log their hikes and apply directly to the Dufferin Highlands BT Club for the badge.

Hike Leader(s): Lynda Bloom Click here to contact Hike Leader(s) Pace: Leisurely Terrain: Easy Distance: 5 km Description We will hike into the accessible crevices to see fossils (no dinosaurs!) and the lush mix of species that are at home along the rocky shelves of the Niagara Escarpment. Roughly 14,000 years ago the entire area was covered by glaciers and we will chat with a professional geologist about how the melting water formed today’s landscape. There will be time to admire the views and trees. The white cedars, some more than 1,000 years old, clinging to weathered rock faces are impressive. No dogs, please.
