Where the road bends sharply north, turn right/east onto 2nd Line EHS, Mono, then left/east onto Dunby Rd. Parking is about .5 km east, where the Main Trail crosses a stile to the south.

    Description

    This will probably be a snowshoe hike and we will therefore avoid the upper crevices by hiking a loop below the scarp edge. Picturesque view of Bass Lake and the wetlands. Approx. 1.5 to 2 hrs.

    Description

    Starting at Hidden Valley Park we will follow the Hidden Valley Multi-use Trail along Grindstone Creek.  We will then enter the Hendrie Valley Sanctuary of the Royal Botanical Gardens and follow various trails as a far as the blocked Valley Inn bridge, have a snack and returning  mostly the way we came.  Unless the ground is frozen, there is likely to be one very muddy section, but all the birds we should see, will hopefully make up for it.  Distance about 7.0 km.  Bring icers , snack and water.

    Please note, this hike is available to BTC members only and you are required to pre-register on line.  When you register you will be sent a list of things to bring and protocols to follow.  Please arrive 15 minutes before start time.  Out of courtesy to others in the club, please notify me of any cancellations up until the night before the hike by email at tedbossence@sympatico.ca

    Beginning at Bayfront Park we will begin this loop hike heading for Princess Point via the Waterfront Trail, Kay Drage Park, past Christ the King Basilica, to Dundurn Castle, along Burlington Heights back to the Waterfront Trail and return to Bayfront park.  Hiking boots and possibly icers, snack, water.

    Description

    We will walk (or snow shoe) along the base of the escarpment on the Memorial Forest Side Trail to Jones Falls and ascend through a crevasse to join the Main Trail to return along the top of the escarpment. There is a steep descent that returns us to the parking lot.

    Description

    From the access trail we will follow the main trail north until the Frank Holley Side Trail. Then we will follow this trail and a road allowance to the SW corner of the Fossil Glen property at which point we will follow the main trail back to the meet location. Map 33.  There will be some rocky and slippery sections. Bring snowshoes. A hiking/ski pole will be helpful.

    Difficulty: Easy

    Avoid the crowds on Family Day! The Islands are quiet in winter. We shall cover the entire Toronto Island Park from Ward’s Island to Hanlan’s Point and back. We should return on the 2:45 pm ferry to be back in Toronto about 3:00 pm. Ferry return fares before tax: approx.$8.50 adult, $5.50 senior/student, $4.50 under 14. MUST BUY TICKETS ONLINE! Bring a lunch and a warm beverage. Donations to the Bruce Trail Conservancy will be gladly accepted. Bring sunglasses and icers or other slip-resistant footwear. Call (416) 392-8193 for ferry info.

From Hwy 89 at Shelburne, drive north on County Rd 124 to County Rd 21 at Redickville. Turn right/east and drive through Honeywood. In about 2 km turn right/south on Centre Rd. Park on the east side where the trail leaves the road to the east.

    Description

    We will hike the Main Trail east and north to where it crosses County Rd 21 and back. The main challenge is a huge snowdrift that accumulates at the top of the hill down to Black Bank Creek. A second challenge is the climb back up this hill at the end of the hike. The shorter hike will turn back where the Main Trail turns east at the top on the east side of the valley. Bring icers, water and snacks. Snowshoes will almost certainly be required.

    Meet at parking on Sixth Line, and head north on Hilton Falls ST approx 6 kms to the Al Shaw Side Trail to the Main Trail, then heading south picking up on the Kythera Friendship Trail and following down over the Dufferin Quarry Bridge to the beginning of the Hilton Falls ST, up through the conservation area to our cars. (Opportunity to shorten the hike by approx 6kms if weather turns or run out of time). Bring water, snacks, lunch, hiking boots, icers, mask, sanitizer, personal first aid kit. No Dogs please.
