Description

On this all-inclusive, queer-led 2SLGBTQIA+ Rainbow hike, we'll start hiking at Devil's Punchbowl and head east.

The route: A combination of Bruce Trail, Dofasco 2000 Trail, and marked paths through Saltfleet Conservation Area.

The distance: We'll aim for 10–12 km on this in-and-out hike, starting and ending at Devil's Punchbowl Parking Lot.

Getting there: Public transit does not reach Devil's Punchbowl directly; the walk from the nearest stop is about 25–30 minutes along the road. For non-drivers, we'll organize a 9 a.m. shuttle from the parking lot in front of the CIBC bank at Fennell & Upper Gage (reachable by Bus routes 21 and 23). We need 2–3 volunteer drivers; all other participants will proceed directly to Devil's Punchbowl. Please let the hike leader know if you're able to drive 2–3 people.

Parking: Parking at Devil's Punchbowl (185 Ridge Road, Stoney Creek) is $8.50 per vehicle. Some members have a Hamilton Conservation Authority Membership, which includes free parking.

Timing: Hike starts promptly at 9:30 a.m. from Devil's Punchbowl Parking lot. Arrive no later than 9:15 a.m. for sign-in. (Car pool folks will meet at Upper Gage and Fennell no later than 9 a.m. for the 15-minute drive.)

Note on parking: Purchase a ticket at the white machine by the garbage receptacles before proceeding to the exit gate. Keep your ticket—you'll need it to leave the parking lot. 🙂

What's a Rainbow Hike? The aim of the Bruce Trail's Rainbow Hikes is to create a safe, welcoming space for 2SLGBTQIA+ hikers—including trans, gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, Two-Spirit, intersex, asexual, and straight friends—to show up as themselves in a safe outdoor setting. Our hiking group typically includes 20 to 25 people representing a full spectrum of sexual orientations, ages, gender identities, and expressions. Diversity rules! 🙂

What to bring: Sufficient water (1–2 litres recommended), proper lunch, and energizing snacks. Hiking boots or sturdy shoes. Hat and sunscreen. It's November, so bring a rain jacket or waterproof poncho. Dress in layers.
