Description
Celebrate Winter Hikes Series – Cyprus Lake – Build Connections with the Park Community
Step into winter with the Celebrate Winter on the Trail Series—an invitation to enjoy the season’s beauty on the trail. These small-group adventures offer shorter distances (~5 km) hikes, slower but steady pace, with a duration of ~ 3hours. Gear requirements will vary with the weather, and may include snowshoes, winter hiking boots, or hiking poles. Join one or all five!
It’s a classic Canadian experience - snowshoeing in a snow-laden forest and gathering around a warm outdoor campfire!
Join us for a beautiful snowshoe trek around Cyprus Lake in Bruce Peninsula National Park. This enchanting winter trail winds through snow-covered trees and along the lake’s shoreline. Pace will depend on weather conditions, and we expect to wrap up around 1:00 pm. Depending on weather and terrain conditions, for those wishing a slightly longer hike, we can take interested hikers to view the Grotto area. Distance for the Cyprus Lake hike is ~ 5km with an optional 1 ½ km trail hike to/from the Grotto. Our hike begins and concludes at the Head of Trails. Come witness how winter has transformed the landscape!
After the hike, cozy up by the fire at Head of the Trails. Bring your thermos of hot chocolate, your lunch, and a chair. Enjoy the Community Campfire Social—our thanks to Bruce Peninsula National Park for providing this wonderful campfire opportunity!
Plan ahead if you don’t have your own snowshoes. Snowshoes and poles kits are available from Bruce County Libraries, free. We also have a few adult pairs of snowshoes. Please let me know if you need snowshoes in advance.
Thanks to the Canada Strong Pass, Bruce Peninsula National Park admission is free from December 15th- January 15th. Parking fees are still required, but parking registration is not required.
