Description

Join us to celebrate Bruce Trail Day at the Barrow Bay Cliffs Nature Reserve. This hike includes panoramic views of Barrow Bay and Little Lake, a nice meander through a hardwood forest, and the opportunity to learn about the work of the Bruce Trail Conservancy and Peninsula Bruce Trail Club to preserve a ribbon of wilderness for everyone to enjoy. We will complete the two side trails in Barrow Bay - John Appleton and Beth Gilhespy.

Starting at the parking lot on County Road 9, from the main trail we will first complete the John Appleton side trail, and then rejoin the main trail stopping along the way for some stunning views of Barrow Bay and Little Lake, continue to along the main trail past the new staircase and join the Beth Gilhespy side trail to form a loop back to the parking lot.

The hike includes some rough terrain and large boulders to cross and conditions can be slippery when wet. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring plenty of water.

If weather is poor, we may shorten the hike to an out and back and/or only complete one of the side trails.

Bruce Trail Day is an annual event celebrating Canada’s oldest and longest footpath, hosted by the Bruce Trail Conservancy and its nine Bruce Trail Clubs. This day is organized each year during the fall - always the first Sunday in October.  It is an opportunity for everyone to learn more about our year-round hiking program, trail maintenance and other hands-on volunteers.
