    This challenging “hike” is intended for those wishing to train for future challenging hikes. Choose your own pace to go up and down the moderately steep hill for 90 minutes. The terrain is a hard packed gravel surface. Bring water, hiking poles, snack and dress for the weather.

    Description

    Hike deep in the Niagara Gorge, along stairways cut into the rock and rugged paths that wind through this pristine pocket of Carolinian Forest. View ancient geological formations and fossils dating back millions of years, while hiking along the turbulent rapids of the Niagara River. This is a strenuous hike and there is a chance hikers will get wet. Depending on weather conditions, bring water, a snack, icers, gaiters and hiking poles, if necessary. Dress in layers. 🙂

    Description

    This is the ninth section in our Cairn to Cairn hike series this fall. Heather Murch and I are co-leading these hikes. Strong hikers are welcome to join for sections or individual hikes, but will need to register for each end to end section series. This series of hikes are 20-24 kms per day and due to parking or hike length, some hikes cover more than one section.

    Note we start our series through Short Hills Prov Park due to park restrictions for hunting

    We meet at 7:30 – hikers should arrive early and be ready to shuttle at that time. We will take turns and everyone is expected to participate in the shuttling. Any parking costs will be shared.
    There is another End to End hike series posted by Heather for those who want to hike and not receive this special Stained Glass badge.
    Hikers should wear layered clothing, bring rainwear, poles, hiking boots, hat, water, snacks, lunch, bug spray, sunblock and be prepared for changing weather this time of year.

    Description

    We will head east and visit Cave Springs CA and return.

    It is mostly level with some hills and a lot of tricky footing.

    Hiking poles are highly recommended.  Wear supportive hiking boots with good tread.  There are a lot of rocks and crevices.  Icers will be required if it is icy, they are not very helpful in just snow.

    Please arrive 15 minutes early.

    If your plans change, please self-cancel as soon as possible so that other members may take your spot.

    Hike Leader reserves the right to modify the hike.

    Description

    We will park at Concession 2 and York road in gravel roadside parking with concrete barriers, if necessary there’s more parking across Concession 2.  We will head south on the Major Teyoninhokarawen/John Norton Side Trail  up the escarpment (poles and boots/trail shoes recommended, especially if there’s mud) and then head east on the main Bruce Trail to Queenston Heights Park.  We will take Alfred’s Trot side trail back to the main trail, head down the escarpment (again, very steep-boots/good traction shoes and poles recommended) and then head back to our cars on Upper Canada Heritage Trail.  Great opportunity for those looking to check these three side trails off their side trail badge requirement. Along the way we will see barracks ruins, lime kiln ruins and maybe even a cave.
