Pace: Leisurely
Distance: ~2km
Description
This event is to work on removing invasive honeysuckle from the BTC Thirty Mile Creek Nature Reserve off Thirty Road in Grimsby.
We will meet for 10 am at the designated parking area at the intersection of Thirty Road & Ridge Road East and walk in together.
Invasive honeysuckle removal methods depend on size – small being pulled by hand and hung on tree branches by the roots to dry out, medium sized pulled through the use of extractigators (special shovel like tools that help pry out the small shrubs) & large having to be cut with chain saws. BTC Ecologists will join us as well as certified club chain sawyers. We hope to have many volunteers on site and we will tackle this area in one day/one work party per year.
Join us at ten am and stay as long as you can – it’s an easy walk out for those that just want to work for an hour or two. If you plan on staying longer pack a lunch & don’t forget lots of water, long pants, long sleeves, work gloves & sturdy footwear.
Volunteers make a difference – come out and join us for a fun work day.
contact Alicia Aitchison – aliciaaitchison1@gmail.com with any questions.
Please register so we know how many people to expect & we can keep everybody informed if anything changes.

Each workshop will include a 20-minute presentation and question-and-answer period, followed by a 1.5hr hike. Wear sturdy walking shoes (if you have them) and clothing appropriate for the weather. Bring water.

Distance: 4 km
Description
Take some time out at the Autumn Equinox for a contemplative, mostly silent hike which offers an opportunity to reflect on the changing seasons in the beautiful escarpment landscape.
The pace will be leisurely to moderate but we will make some stops along the way to immerse ourselves in the forest environment, to reflect on the equal balance of dark and light coinciding with the equinox as we turn towards the darker season, as well as to silently enjoy the nature around us. You will be invited to reflect, listen, breathe.
Most of the hike will be silent, intended to be a meditation on and immersion into the landscape.
While the pace will be moderate, the trail at Cave Springs is rocky in parts and so good footwear is essential and poles recommended. It’s been a wet year so a hat and insect repellant will keep you more comfortable. As always, carry water and be prepared for changeable weather with layers and rain gear.
This is a leisurely, contemplative in-and-out hike from Quarry Rd in Beamsville into Cave Springs conservation area and back. We will depart at 10 am and be back before noon. There is limited parking available at Quarry Rd.
