Part of IBTC education series. Join local historian enthusiast Rosemary Horsewood as she leads us on a walk through this once busy industrial area dating back to 1803. We’ll start at Crooks Hollow dam and walk back to Crooks Hollow to point out the Miller’s houses then walk along Spencer’s Creek and talk about Darnley Grist Mill, Bullocks Corner and houses that still stand from this period.
PLEASE NOTE Highway # 8 has a washed out section so you will not be able to take normal route up #8. Please check Google map or some other direction app to figure out your route or call me 905-637-7136

This is a gentle urban walk on paved trail designed for those slowing down or just starting. Caregivers with strollers welcome. Trail is paved with some grass spots at the memorial Guest leaders are Marian Toth & Gary Wrathall local history buffs. Meet at 9:50 am at The Sandbox Beach Bar, 680 Waterfront Tail to sign up. Enter through the Confederation Park Gates and follow signs to Beaches Grill (Old name for The Sandbox Beach Bar )where there is ample parking and washrooms open to the public.We will walk along the Waterfront Trail to the War of 1812 Naval Memorial Garden and Baranga’s on the Beach to discuss the history of those locations. We will pass some environmentally sensitive areas along the way and see some of the ways the Hamilton Conservation Authority is working to keep waterways healthy. The annual Iroquoia Club End to End consists of four hikes over two weekends and in 2019 will take place on October 19, 20 and October 26, 27. The section is 122 km. long, with the hikes measuring as follows:
- Official Iroquoia E2E - Hike 1: 33.1 km
- Official Iroquoia E2E - Hike 2: 30.0 km
- Official Iroquoia E2E - Hike 3: 32.5 km
- Official Iroquoia E2E - Hike 4: 27.2 km
(Please note, these distances are subject to change due to trail reroutes)
This is a challenging, but richly rewarding series of hikes. Buses depart on all days at 7:30 am sharp from predetermined locations to take all participants to the start of the hike. Check in is at 7:00 am.
Space is limited to the number of people on the bus. There is no leader. Volunteers will be at trailside checkpoints with water and snacks along the way. The hike will be completed independently and at your own pace, but it is expected that participants will be able to finish by 5:00 pm.
The registration fee is $50 ($60 for non-BTC members) for all four hikes, or $15 per day that you wish to hike. The fee covers the cost of transportation, entry to Mount Nemo Conservation Area for two days, snacks, and the Waterfall badge for those who complete all four hikes. Hikes will go rain or shine.

This walk takes will take us through Quarry Trail within this ecological preserve on the corner of 7th Concession just north of Gore Road in West Flamborough. Part of the Hamilton Conservation Authority We'll meet at the free parking lot located at 43.4136 N 80.1204W. We'll be taking the double loops of the trail with several stops to talk about the history and ecology of this unique wetland called a fen. Please arrive at 8:45 AM so we can start at 9 am. An energetic way to start your Day! Back again this year! Meet at 9:00am at the top of the Chedoke Stairs on Scenic Drive at Upper Paradise on the West Mountain. We will then carpool to the parking lot at the Albion Falls Lookout (north of Albion Falls), and do all 7 sets of escarpment stairs, including Kenilworth & Uli’s Stairs. In between the sets of stairs we will hike parts of the BruceTrail and the Rail Trails. The fall colours should be out! We will stop just over half way at the Tim's on Concession Street for a short snack break. We should be done between 1:30pm and 2pm. Hike is cancelled if there is heavy rain. Rain back up date is Sunday Nov 3rd
Directions: From Garth Street take Scenic Drive west to Upper Paradise. The parking lot is on your right (across from the start of Upper Paradise). If there is no room in the parking lot you can park on the street. From the 403, take the Linc to Golf Links and turn left on Golf Links that becomes Mohawk. Then turn left (north) on to Upper Paradise until the end at Scenic Drive (parking lot will be straight ahead)
