Join us for a series of hikes in the gorgeous Frontenac Provincial Park! We will hike Sep 26-30, 2022 on some of the amazing trails in this park. You can hike for this entire period or just join us for a day or two, your choice.
This semi-wilderness park features Canadian Shield granite outcrops, vast wetlands, 28 lakes, mixed forests, plants and wildlife. Trails wind through rugged terrain to areas such as: Moulton Gorge, Arkon Lake Bog, the Black Lake homestead and the Crab Lake mines.
From Otter Lake, hikers and canoeists head into the interior for glimpses of osprey and kingfisher, deer and black bear, coyote, fox, and abundant beaver. Some of the many unique features along the trails include lookouts, beaver ponds, abandoned mica mines, the remains of a homestead, extensive boardwalk and rock ridges.
***Hikers are to make their own arrangements for accommodation*** PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP UNTIL YOU HAVE A PLACE TO STAY.
A favourite place to stay near the park is the lovely Snug Harbour Resort: http://www.snugharbour.on.ca
You should make your reservation ASAP because these cabins book up quickly!
Hikers will be also responsible for transportation to and from the hikes.
The hike schedule and meeting locations for each day will be provided to participants closer to the date.

Description
Looking for a distance and strength challenge? The Steeltown Stomp is back and this year we have a new badge!
Climb up and down approximately 2,000 steps of the escarpment stairs and hike over 20 kilometres in the Iroquoia Bruce Trail Club’s annual Steeltown Stomp.
This is a self-guided hike along the Bruce Trail, the Escarpment Rail Trail and the Chedoke Radial Trail, and climbing up and down 7 sets of stairs along the Hamilton Escarpment (Uli - 140, Margate - 159, Kimberley - 228, Wentworth - 500, James - 232, Dundurn - 329, Chedoke - 289).
Everyone who completes the route and goes through the two checkpoints will earn the Steeltown Stomp badge.
Please Note: This is an arduous hike because of the stair climbing required.
Fee: $30 includes checkpoint snacks, badge and helps to support the Bruce Trail Conservancy in its mission to preserve a ribbon of wilderness, for everyone, forever.
Check in: At the registration booth set up at the north end of the parking lot of the Mohawk 4 Ice Centre. We have set up staggered start times - choose 8:00, 8:15, 8:30 or 8:45 when you register and you will start the hike as you are checked in. This is not a race and you will not be timed.
Checkpoints: Start and end at the Mohawk 4 Ice Centre. There is a second turnaround checkpoint at the Chedoke Golf Course.
Route: Follow the yellow blazes...special yellow blazes will be set up to mark the route. In addition, the route has been set up on the AllTrails app - if you have this downloaded on your phone, you can follow the route using the app. Outbound Route … Inbound route
What to bring: Bring your own water and snacks. Wear comfortable sturdy shoes (hiking boots are not necessary) and dress for the weather. Protect yourself from insects and sun. Although water will be available at the public water fountains, you will need to bring your own water bottle.

Hike Leader(s): Stuart Law Click here to contact Hike Leader(s)
Pace: Medium - 3 to 4 km/hr
Terrain: Dependent on Conditions, Moderate - Some hills and/or some poor footing, Slippery Sections Likely
Distance: 17 kms
Description
Join us in the delights of Fall with not just one, but two, visits to Hilton Falls on the same hike. Full disclosure here, there is very little water going over the Falls right now given the drought conditions we have been experiencing, but there is some and it is still a remarkable natural and historical destination. We will walk about half of the Hilton Falls Side Trail and discover some new trails in the Halton Agreement Forest. Some portions of our hike will be rocky so sturdy hiking boots and poles are recommended. Please bring a lunch, a snack, 2.5 L of water, a smile and an appreciation of nature. Conservation Halton reservations are required (3). Please book as early as possible because they fill up and entry to the park is dependent upon it. Conservation Halton annual pass recommended. Ask for the Bruce Trail membership discount.
