  • Blue Mountains – Petun CA to south of the Loree Forest

    Location (Google Maps): Western end of 18th Sideroad just west of 5th Line (BTC Map 24, km 11.3) at 9 am.  We will then shuttle to the Petun CA start point to begin our hike.

    Terrain: Slippery and Steep Sections, Strenuous – Hilly with steep climbs and some poor footing
    Distance: 19.6 kms

    Description

    Please join us on a hot 19.6 km hike in the Blue Mountains overlooking Collingwood.  Views over Georgian Bay will abound.  We need to pay for parking at the Petun CA but it is only about $12 a car. Please bring at least 3L of water and electrolytes along with a snack and a lunch. We will finish about 4:30 pm. Please consider carpooling and please note the BTC website will be down for maintenance and renewal Sunday and Monday. You may need to recreate your login when it goes live again. Thanks.

    Description

    Please join us for a 19 km shuttle hike from the Dundas Valley CA to Hwy 6 on the BTC Main Trail.  Parking fee at the Dundas Valley CA.  Please be prepared to contribute.  We will be taking some of Iroquoia’s finest trail and getting a really good appreciation of Dundas, ON given the current re-route.  Be prepared for Beatles songs, laughs and an appreciation of nature.  Please bring at least 3L of water, a snack, a lunch and a smile.  Hiking boots mandatory.  Poles highly recommended.  Please pack bug spray and sunscreen.

    We’ll meet at Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area, hike the Rattlesnake Side Trail to main trail, completing the Leech Porter Side Trail, Canyon ByPass Side Trail and Crawford Lake Side Trail and main trail through the beautiful Nassagaweya Canyon, returning to our cars along the Rattlesnake Point Side Trail. No pets. Hikers should be self sufficient and bring sunscreen, water, snack, lunch, boots, hat etc.

    Description

    Mount Nemo offers some of the best views around from the top of the escarpment. We will complete a clockwise circuit using Main Bruce Trail and Conservation Area trails. We will look for the elusive “hidden quarry” and perhaps go down into it. There will be some rocky sections where you can practice your “rock dancing”. Meet in the parking lot at 9:45 am. for a 10:00 am. start. Bring water a snack, sunscreen, insect repellent and poles if using. Reservation with Halton parks necessary.

    Description

    We will hike along the upper escarpment trail, to Borer’s Falls, then along the meadow trail and down the stairs/hill to the lower forest trail.  We will hike within the lower forest for a short time then double back up the stairs/hill, through the meadow and pass the Borer’s Falls once again enroute to the parking lot to close our sunset hike.
    This hike is primarily easy/flat surface, however, the stairs and hill leading in and out of the lower forest are steep.
    Please wear your hiking footwear and bring poles if you require them.
    Also bring water and a snack if you like, bug repellent, a hat and any medication such as an epi pen or an inhaler you think you may require.
    The hike will commence promptly at 5:45PM.   See you there!
    Cancellation Note: If less than 3 people are registered for this hike it will be cancelled and an email will be sent out to confirm cancellation 9-24 hours prior to hike time.

    This is a two-day Special Event Hike for the new(ish) Laura Secord badge. On August 25th, we will meet at Woodend Conservation Area 1 Taylor Rd, Niagara Falls and carpool to the Laura Secord homestead 29 Queenston St,  Queenston. On August 26, we will meet at Woodend again and carpool to Decew House 2370 Decew Rd, Thorold.
    please bring enough water (2 litres minimum) and snacks and lunch for both days.

    Badges will be available on the second day. Please bring $10 for the badge if you would like to collect it.

    This is a  social There and Back -We will meet at Kinsmen Park- Map 4 and hike west from approximately 69.8 to 75.0 -Map 5 and return same route with a optional stop at the Locust Lane Winery which in on the trail  approximately 3 kms from  returning to our vehicles at Kinsmen Park. Pack a lunch or snack for a midway stop. MUST have water and good to also have bug spray, sunscreen, hat, appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather and hiking pole. Newcomers welcome. Not necessary to be a Bruce Trail member
