    Description

    Looking for a distance and strength challenge? The Steeltown Stomp is back and this year we have a new badge!

    Climb up and down approximately 2,000 steps of the escarpment stairs and hike over 20 kilometres in the Iroquoia Bruce Trail Club’s annual Steeltown Stomp.

    This is a self-guided hike along the Bruce Trail, the Escarpment Rail Trail and the Chedoke Radial Trail, and climbing up and down 7 sets of stairs along the Hamilton Escarpment (Uli – 140, Margate – 159, Kimberley – 228, Wentworth – 500, James – 232, Dundurn – 329, Chedoke – 289).

    Everyone who completes the route and goes through the two checkpoints will earn the Steeltown Stomp badge.

    Please Note: This is an arduous hike because of the stair climbing required.

    Fee: $30 includes checkpoint snacks, badge and helps to support the Bruce Trail Conservancy in its mission to preserve a ribbon of wilderness, for everyone, forever.

    Check in: At the registration booth set up at the north end of the parking lot of the Mohawk 4 Ice Centre.  We have set up staggered start times – choose 8:00, 8:15, 8:30 or 8:45 when you register and you will start the hike as you are checked in. This is not a race and you will not be timed.

    Checkpoints: Start and end at the Mohawk 4 Ice Centre. There is a second turnaround checkpoint at the Chedoke Golf Course.

    Route: Follow the yellow blazes…special yellow blazes will be set up to mark the route. In addition, the route has been set up on the AllTrails app – if you have this downloaded on your phone, you can follow the route using the app. Outbound Route … Inbound route

    What to bring: Bring your own water and snacks. Wear comfortable sturdy shoes (hiking boots are not necessary) and dress for the weather. Protect yourself from insects and sun. Although water will be available at the public water fountains, you will need to bring your own water bottle.

    FAQ’s

    What if it rains? This is a rain or shine event.

    What if I need to drop out? As we are in an urban area, there are places to meet a taxi or a ride along the way. This must be arranged by you, the participant. If you have to drop out during the event, please let us know by test or phone to Samar Smith at 416-662-9192.

    How long will it take to finish? We estimate that the hike will take between 3 and 5 hours.

    Is my ticket/registration transferable/refundable? No. Please let us know if you cannot make it.

    Description

    Join us in the delights of Fall with not just one, but two, visits to Hilton Falls on the same hike.  Full disclosure here, there is very little water going over the Falls right now given the drought conditions we have been experiencing, but there is some and it is still a remarkable natural and historical destination.  We will walk about half of the Hilton Falls Side Trail and discover some new trails in the Halton Agreement Forest.  Some portions of our hike will be rocky so sturdy hiking boots and poles are recommended.  Please bring a lunch, a snack, 2.5 L of water, a smile and an appreciation of nature.  Conservation Halton reservations are required (3).  Please book as early as possible because they fill up and entry to the park is dependent upon it.  Conservation Halton annual pass recommended.  Ask for the Bruce Trail membership discount.

    This hike, on easy terrain, visits the area of Bronte Creek’s east bank with some urban and forest trails. The Fall colours should almost be at their best. We get good views of the trails on the West Bank of Bronte Creek. Meet at 9:45 am. for a 10:00 am. start in the children’s playground on Valleyridge Drive where it intersects with Highvalley Rd. Bring water, a snack and sunscreen.

    Come out and enjoy the beauty of Fall with its vibrant colours as Mother Nature puts on her annual show. We will use a variety of trails including the Walter Trail, Spillway Trail, McCarston’s Lake Sidetrail, the Lookout Trail and main trail  to explore this lovely area. Meet in the parking lot by 10:15 am. for a 10:30 am. start. Bring water, a snack/lunch, hiking poles if using and appropriate footwear for varied terrain. Mostly easy footing with some areas of hills and poor footing. Don’t forget your cameras. Optional pub stop afterward. Car pool if possible.

    Description

    From Sanctuary Park we will hike the Spring Creek trail and parts of the Sawmill trail to the Trail Centre.  After a break, (washrooms “should” be available at the trail centre) we will walk to the south side of the rail trail and take the Main Loop, Sulphur Creek, local access trails and rail trail back to the parking lot.

    Please arrive 10 minutes before the start time.  I will be leaving at 10:00 am.  Bring water, sunscreen, a first aid kit and a snack.  Poles are highly recommended due to the number of hills and some hills may be slippery if it has rained recently.  I will cancel the hike in case of rain.  Please check your email the evening before the hike in case of a cancellation.  If you must cancel after the 4:00 pm Tuesday cut-off time, please email that evening at tedbossence@sympatico.ca or text me the next morning at 905 334-8752.

    You must be a Bruce Trail member to join this hiking event.

    These hikes are NOT on the Bruce Trail.

    This is a special, 7 day, 6 night trip to Frontenac Provincial Park. This special hiking event is a series of loop hikes called the Frontenac Challenge held in Frontenac Provincial Park. Frontenac Provincial Park is about 3.5 hours from Toronto. The 11 loops are 1.5km to about 27km including the trail to access the trail head. Accommodation is at Snug Harbour Resort, a short distance from the park. Five shareable cabins have been blocked off for the Bruce Trail hikers. Please contact Rob at relax@snugharbour.on.ca.     Description

    This is an UNOFFICIAL Series Hike: E2E in 4 of the Dufferin Hi-Land Section.

    You can submit for the regular, self-completed Dufferin Hi-Land Club Badge directly, after all four hikes are completed.

    This series of 4 hikes will be led by Joe Borges of the Iroquoia Club.

     

    IMPORTANT

    Please be honest about your degree of physical fitness prior to registration. We are intending on hiking at a 3.5-4  KM per hour pace. You must be able to keep up with the group.  Each section will also have varying degrees of difficulty, including some steep climbs in elevation in specific areas. The shortest day is 10.55 km and the longest will be 16.4 km.

    Dates have been spread out to be on 4 Saturdays in the Fall . If required, the hike schedule will be adjusted for severe weather.

    TRANSPORTATION

    This series will be through hikes and will require car shuttling, you must be willing to drive or to be a passenger. Some parking locations may require paid parking that we will share evenly.

    OTHER GUIDELINES

    1. Arrive 15 minutes before the start of the hike
    2. Please ensure you dress for forecasted weather and the terrain
    3. Wear sturdy footwear – hiking boots are strongly recommended. Standard running shoes are NOT recommended.  A fresh pair of socks is a delight halfway through a hike
    4. Hiking poles or a walking stick are optional but recommended
    5. Always carry I.D. and your health card
    6. Bring sufficient water and snacks (or lunch if indicated)
      A minimum of 1L of water is recommended on all hikes, and 3L is recommended for long, challenging hikes in the heat of the summer
    7. Bring sunscreen and insect repellent.  A hat is also highly recommended
    8. Bring your own first aid kit
    9. Masks may be worn in vehicles
    10. Please leave dogs at home

    Description

    We will meet at Delottinvale Park and then walk up to the Davidson Road Access Trail, which will take us to the McCormack trails.  Mostly good footing but some long hills.  The views are really good and I hope there will still be some Fall Colours.

    To reach Delottinvale Park take Governor’s Road (99)out of Dundas for nearly 4K.  Turn RIGHT onto Pirie Drive and then LEFT onto Newcombe.  Continue until you reach the Park on your right.  There are no official parking areas so you will have to park on the neighbourhood streets.  Please be careful when doing this as we do not want to annoy the local people.  Just beyond the Park there are several spots where you can park as well as on Winegarden Trail which is the next street on the right.

    Description

    Come celebrate Trafalgar Day on the brand new BTC Trafalgar Side Trail as we do a 17 km loop hike of the many Side Trails of Scotsdale Farm.  There will be the traces of a railway from Toronto to Guelph hidden in the bush.  There will be a pit, a reservoir, a quarry, three streams, and perhaps a salamander or two.  The area is carpeted with leaves and the Fall colours remain too.  Please bring a warm drink, water, a snack, a smile and an appreciation of nature.  Boardwalks and bridges will be slippery.  Extra caution required.  Hiking boots mandatory.  Please dress in layers for the weather.

    Description

    This is an End to End hike of Sydenham section and is intended for those who are in great physical condition and can commit to hiking 8 days straight at a brisk pace as a group.
    Sydenham is over 175km in length with about 50km of road. There will be opportunities for photos and enjoying the beautiful vistas.
    Everyone will be expected to share in the car shuttling  in a fair manner. Please wear a mask while in the vehicle. We will hike from north to south and the hiking schedule will be provided to confirmed participants before we start. Hiking schedules are subject to change in the event of parking closures or other variables. Booking accommodation, if you require it, in Owen Sound is suggested as it is about midway of this section.
    We will hike rain or shine. Please dress for the forecasted weather, wear appropriate footwear, carry a first aid kit, whistle, snacks, lunch, 1.5 – 2l of water and any other items you require. Poles are suggested but optional. If you register for this hike, and decide to cancel at a later date, please ensure you remove yourself from the list in order to let anyone on the wait list an opportunity to fill your spot.

    Description

    MEET at City View Park  at the SECOND parking lot going south from Dundas St.- We will start at blue side trail from parking lot and cross Kerns Rd and hike Main trail through the well established trails of Waterdown Woods over King St.(Salamander alley in Spring) to Mountain Brow Rd.

    We will take blue side trail  to Smokey Hollow to view falls and have a snack/lunch break- We will go back mostly the same way  towards Kerncliff Park .   Bring water, snack/lunch, appropriate clothing-rain or shine unless storm conditions prevail.

    Join us for a loop hike of the Dundas Valley taking in Canterbury and Sherman Falls.  Easy trail so you can afford to look up and relax.  Please bring water, a warm drink, snack, lunch, an appreciation of nature and a smile.  Fee payable on entering the Conservation Area.  Hamilton Conservation pass recommended.  Possible optional pub stop after.
