Walk for Health and Fun – West Hamilton

Description

Climb the steps and walk the streets and trails of West Hamilton. We will hike sections of the Bruce Trail as well as the trails of Iroquoia Heights. There will be weekly walks all summer. Now we are all getting older we are not hiking as fast as we used to. Hike is cancelled if there is heavy rain.

Description

Come and enjoy this beautiful conservation area with its perfect views and spectacular cliffs. This is escarpment at its best. We will hike north, go down into the canyon, hike south and then ascend out of the canyon back to Rattlesnake. There is one long, steepish hill to go down and a long, but gentle hill to go back up. Bring a lunch/snack and water. Conservation pass or parking fee in effect. Rattlesnake is on the west side of Appleby Line, north of Derry Rd. at the top of the windy road. Map 11. Take Meadowbrook to Jerseyville Side Rd. and turn right. Just pass the high school the Little League Park is on the right at the bottom of the hill.

Dundas Valley Conservation Area (DVCA)

Location (Google Maps): Meet at Ridgewood Blvd Dundas (for those with a GPS put in 38 Ridgewood Blvd) at 9:45am to begin hike at 10:00am, if you are heading West on Hwy 99 (Governors Road) towards Copetown, turn left onto Ridgewood Blvd and park on the West (right) side of the road. If you come to the main entrance to the DVCA area on Hwy 99 you have gone too far and passed Ridgewood Blvd

Description

This 10-12 km loop hike through the DVCA will take approximately 2.5 hrs to 3 hrs to complete. We will take a variety of trails. There will be a rest stop at the Trail Centre, which will be open for washrooms, water refill station and snacks. Well behaved dogs, on leash, are welcome. Please bring water and snacks. Park on Filman Road, (exit 403 at Rousseaux Rd) and first right onto Filman Road. Park at end of road. Hike Main Trail to Dundurn Steps and return by Robert MacLaren Side Trail and Iroquoia Heights Side Trail back to cars.

Bring hiking boots, hat, water, snack/lunch, sun block, bug spray.  No dogs. Coffee/pub stop afterwards for those interested.
