    Description

    Mono Cliffs: Trails & Tales

    Join us for Mono Cliffs: Trails & Tales, an approximately 9 km, 3-hour hike through the beautiful trails of Mono Cliffs Provincial Park.

    We will meet at the Mono Community Centre parking lot, 754483 Mono Centre Road, Mono, ON, and hike into Mono Cliffs Provincial Park before returning to our starting point.

    Distance: Approximately 9 km
    Duration: Approximately 3 hours
    Pace: Moderate
    Terrain: Moderate, with hills, some rocky sections and uneven footing

    Along the way, we will travel through beautiful forested sections and the Niagara Escarpment landscape, stopping briefly at points of interest to enjoy the surroundings and share a few interesting facts and stories about the area.

    Please ensure that you are comfortable hiking approximately 9 km over varied terrain before registering.

    How to Prepare

    • Get a good night’s sleep and come ready for approximately 3 hours of hiking.

    • Bring plenty of water. 1–2 litres per person is recommended.

    • Bring a snack or light food for the hike. Bring your medication if needed.

    • Wear sturdy hiking shoes or hiking boots with good traction. Waterproof footwear is recommended if trail conditions are damp.

    • Hiking poles are recommended but not required, particularly for hills and uneven sections.

    • Bring insect repellent or wear protective clothing.

    • Bring sunscreen and consider a hat for sun protection.

    • Dress appropriately for the weather and consider bringing an extra layer.

    • Please arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled start time to allow time for check-in. We will depart promptly.

    Weather

    The hike may be cancelled or rescheduled in the event of rain or other unsafe weather or trail conditions. Registered hikers will be notified of any changes.

    We will hike the Main Trail, returning by way of the Oliver Creek and Moss Haven Side Trails. The short hike will return to parking from just past the top of the Enchanted Forest Side Trail, before the Main Trail descends into the Boyne Valley. Bring water and snacks. Hiking poles are recommended.

    Description

    From Heritage Rd we will  hike west along the Main Trail, through Terra Cotta Conservation Area.  We will return along the Terra Cotta Side Trail (Caledon Trailway) to Heritage Rd.   Terrain is mostly flat, with some hills, and a steep section. This is a 10 km hike with an option to turn back for a 5 km hike. Bring lunch, snacks and water.

    Description

    We will hike along the Main Trail in the Moraine, through forest and fields, to Airport Rd. Those wishing a short hike will return to the parking lot from here. The hike will continue with a short walk south on Airport Rd and on the Songbird Side Trail, then return to the parking lot on Mountainview Rd.  Bring water and snacks, insect repellent and hiking poles, as needed.

    Distance: 13 KM

    Description

    This is a series of five hikes in the Dufferin Hi-Land section of the Bruce Trail to complete all blue-blazed trails in the section.  Hikers finishing all hikes in the series will be eligible to obtain the Dufferin Hi-Land Club’s Side Trails Badge.  All hikes in the series will be loops including sections of the main trail and the entirety of several side trails.

    This first hike will include completing the following side trails: Bell Lookout, Kilgore, Melodonna, Pine River Valley and Carl Alexander.

    The trail will include steep and rocky sections, please wear appropriate footwear for the terrain; hiking boots or shoes.  Hiking poles are recommended.  Insects are still active at this time of year, so come prepared by wearing long pants and long sleeves; bring insect repellent/bug nets as needed.  Bring plenty to drink and a snack/lunch.

    Please arrive at the meeting place by 8:15 am for an 8:30 am departure.

You’ll explore stunning limestone caverns carved by ancient glaciers, wander through cool rock crevices lined with ferns and mosses, and discover the area’s rich history—including the remains of old lime kilns once vital to local farming. Along the way, enjoy stories about the park’s surprising past, including the rock concerts that took place here in the 1960s.
