    Discovery Badge Blitz Hike Three

    Description

    Hike Three of the “Discovery Badge Blitz Series” covers Caledon Hill’s Discovery Hike 2, exploring parts of the main Trail, Mountainview Road and Songbird Side Trails, and the Dingle. Bring your choice of hydration and snacks or lunch. Hiking boots are recommended. All are welcome to join this hike. Hikers completing all three “Badge Blitz” hikes will receive their Discovery badges at the end of the hike. (The badge cost is $5.00.)

    Description

    Scotsdale Farm is always an interesting place to hike. The Bennett family farmed this area for many years and donated it to the Ontario Heritage Foundation. Using main and blue side trails we will explore this lovey area. Expect some rocks but generally good terrain. Bring a snack and water. To reach the farm go north on Trafalgar Rd. until you get to the entrance, hard to see. It will be on your right. ( For a short time Trafalgar Rd. and Highway 7 are the same.     Description

    The trail starts at the north end of 2nd Concession South approximately 1.5 km north of Grey Rd 18, east of Owen Sound. We will follow the Silent Valley Side Trail, the Avalanche Pass Side Trail, the main trail, the Wilson Homestead Side Trail and then return along the Silent Valley Side Trail. This will take approximately 2 to 3 hours. If there are icy conditions then the route might change accordingly. Hiking poles are recommended.  Map 30.     Webwood to Blantyre

    Description

    This hike will begin at the pretty Webwood Falls and travel through a variety of woodlands and fields, as well as along escarpment edge.

    Participant Guidelines

    1. All kms. mentioned are according to maps in Edition 29 of The Bruce Trail Reference.
    2. Please arrive 10 minutes before start of hike.
    3. Participants are expected to wear appropriate attire for the weather and the terrain. In summer, sturdy footwear is necessary. In winter, snowshoes or icers/crampons are needed when conditions dictate. It is a good idea to bring these items if there is snow on the ground and the hike leader will advise you as to the best footwear for the day. Hiking poles are a good idea in any season, especially if the terrain is rocky or slippery. Wearing appropriate clothing and footwear prevents injuries and shows consideration for a safe and positive group hiking experience.
    4. Always carry I.D. and your health card.
    5. For spring and summer hikes bring sunscreen, insect repellent and water.
    6. Please leave dogs at home.

    Hockley Nature Reserve

    We will hike the Isabel East Side Trail, the Main Trail, The Cam Snell Side Trail and the Glen Cross Side Trail. The terrain is undulating and mostly hardwood forests with several streams flowing in the ravines.

    Description

    The hike will start at 45.4 on Map 30 which is on St. Vincent-Sydenham Townline 1.7 km north of Highway 26 just east of Woodford. We will follow the main trail to 55.2 on Map 30. A short car shuttle will be needed. If a car shuttle can not be arranged then the hike will be 13 km. Bring snacks and water. The hike will probably take 4 hours.     Description

    We will hike from the cemetery over to the start of the Blue Mountain section then up to Grey Rd 9 and back. This hike offers a variety of terrain, along crevices, through forest, fields and along side the Noisy River and a beautiful wetland. Bring snacks and adequate water.  Hiking shoes or boots recommended.

    Loree Forest / Escarpment Climb Loop

    Description

    We will climb up the escarpment on the switch back path and then join the Bruce trail at km 2.3 and follow the trail through the Loree Forest until we meet the Loree Forest side trail and then descent the escarpment to return to our meeting spot.  Bring lunch, snacks and sufficient water.
