    Description

    Looking to get out on a Saturday but not give up your whole day? Saturday Shorts, a hiking series, will get you out in a small group on a short hike. This Saturday’s hike takes us to the north end of the Caledon section as we use side trails and the main trail to make a 4 to 5 km route in the Whitetail Refuge Nature Reserve. Be prepared for winter conditions by bringing warm gear, poles, and icers. You are encouraged to bring water and a snack. No dogs please.

    The hike leader for this hike is Dan Revington. Registrants can expect a reminder/update message from Dan one or two days before the hike.

    Hike 5 of 5 – connecting the blazes for the Toronto section!

    Bennett Heritage trail to the main trail. South through forested wetlands with boardwalks. Crossing busy roads, a little road walking then back to woodlands, and along fields before entering Limehouse and the Conservation Area. The trail passes a restored kiln and ruins of an old mill. Limehouse Side Trail to parking.

    29.8 to 20.3 + 0.96 side trails = 10.46 km

    Alternate: North on Highway 410, continue on Highway 10, at Caledon Village, left on Charleston Sideroad (24), left on Mississauga Rd., drive 2 km to the roadside parking.

    Will enter Forks of the Credit Conservation Area using Elora-Cataract Trailway and hike main Bruce Trail, Mill Pond Trail and parts of conservation trails.

    Dress according to weather, in layers, cleats may be required for safe hiking.
    Will observe Forest Bathing for 20 minutes during the hike.

    This hike has been cancelled due to trail conditions and a special weather statement for Wednesday morning.

    Looking to get outside and enjoy nature in another season? You may wish to join in on one Wednesday hike in this winter series or all five! Complete all five as part of the series or do a combination of hikes within the series and your own winter hikes, and you will be eligible to receive the Caledon Winter Hiking Badge (further details below and on the CHBTC website under Club Badges).

    Description

    This series of five hikes celebrates the glorious sugar maple as we move from winter towards spring.  The trails are all in or near the Caledon section of the Bruce Trail and range from 7 to 10 km in length.

    Register individually for one, a few, or all of the Sweetwater Badge Hikes taking place on Mondays.

    Participants who complete the five hikes will be eligible to receive a Sweetwater badge.   (Note:  If you wish to purchase a badge, the cost is $10.00 for BTC members and $15.00 for non-members.)

    Hike 1 is a loop hike on the Terra Cotta Conservation Area trails past some tap lines and a sugar shack.

    Moderate – difficult under winter conditions

    Bring your choice of hydration and snacks. Hiking boots and icers/crampons are required.

    Participants will be notified the night before if a hike must be cancelled due to inclement weather.

    Description

    Join me on this fundraising series to complete two End to Ends of Caledon in March earning both the new Caledon Stained Glass badge and the Redside Dace E2E badge. The cost of both badges is included in your registration fee.

    Over 6 scheduled hikes, we will hike out and back to complete two End to Ends of the Caledon Hills Bruce Trail section from Cheltenham Badlands to Mono Centre.

    A detailed schedule with meeting locations will be sent prior to the start of the series.

    There is no car shuttle. We will meet at a convenient location between the start and finish points.

    This is a challenger series. Hikes will average 24 km in distance and we will be hiking at a brisk to fast pace, depending on the conditions of the trail. Be sure of your ability prior to joining this series. There are no Refunds!

    If there is a risk of inclement weather  affecting road conditions, the hike leader will reschedule the hike.  Make-up dates will be discussed with registrants.

    Description

    It’s been 5 years since the Quadrango Fandango and so it seems fitting the hike series be renamed to celebrate those 5 years! There will be 5 badges awarded to those who complete 9 hikes over 4 weeks; mostly on Tuesday/Wednesday.

    March 11/12/13, 18/19/25/26 and April 1 & 2 with the 3rd held in reserve should we need to cancel a hike due to inclement weather.

    The hikes are no more than 22 km.

    The registration fee includes 5 badges.
    Exciting new badges:
    1. Badlands Stained Glass series (fundraiser E2E) $30
    2. Redside Dace, a little at-risk fish (independent E2E) $10
    3. Sideways (40 km of side trails) $10
    We will also meet the requirements for:
    4. Frosty-Five badge (5 hikes by Mar 20) $10
    5. Discovery badge (learn along the way!) $10

    Participants must be BTC members and pay for all badges ($70) when registering; as a fundraiser for the Caledon Hills Club of the BTC.  The badges will be awarded on the final hike of the series.

    There will be no shuttling; all hikes are in & out so you can make up a hike on your own if needed. Carpooling is encouraged to minimize parking requirements. We’ll start in the north at the Mono Community Centre. The hikes range from 17.9 to 21.6 km. I’ll send out the full itinerary a few days before we start.

    Expect winter conditions – icers are required and snow shoes are recommended. You’ll need layered clothing, boots & poles and a raincoat. Bring lots of water, a snack and lunch. You’ll want to arrive by 8:00 am as the hikes start at 8:15 sharp.

    Also expect to have fun! We will be challenged by Caledon Hills in the winter and we will also do some learning along the way.  I’m looking forward to this adventure!

    Description

    Learn everything there is to know about the ABCs of Hiking Poles in this informative, engaging and interactive presentation. Developed and facilitated by Margaret O’Dell, this session will cover everything about hiking poles including attributes, benefits and cons. Bring your hiking poles (if you own a pair), so we can compare the different attributes of various brands and styles. We’ll draw from our collective experiences and founded research to learn from one another about good hiking pole etiquette. The session will conclude with a fun game – the winner will go home with a free pair of Cascade Mountain Trek Hiking Poles.

    There will be an optional hike along the Tews Falls Side Trail after lunch – please indicate if you will be attending this optional hike in your registration or by using the Contact the Hike Leader button .

    Refreshments will be provided with registration and lunch for anyone attending the optional hike portion.

This Saturday’s hike is an enjoyable one in any season. We’ll hike the outer loop, making about a 6 km route, at Cold Creek Conservation Area. Be prepared for winter conditions by bringing warm gear, icers/crampons, and poles. If the weather warms up, the route may be altered to avoid a flooded section of trail. Bring water and a snack, if desired. There will be a short break. No dogs please. Registrants can expect a reminder/update message one or two days before the hike.

    For this hike, registrants can bring a friend who is not yet a BTC member. Please send the hike leader a message indicating that a friend will be joining you. A paper registration sheet will be available for your friend to sign in, so please factor that into your arrival time.

    Hike 3 is an out and back hike through the hills around Glen Haffy using Bruce Trail and Conservation Area trails. See maple lined laneways and wrap your arms around large maples.

    Description

    We  will meet at the road side parking on Filman Rd. as described above. There is only room for 5 cars, so car pooling  suggested if possible.

    From the parking area we will hike the main trail to Tiffany Falls. We will then continue on the main trail to Sherman Falls.

    We will then enter, and loop through the Dundas Valley Conservation Area on the Artaban Side Trail.

    We will then hike the main trail and the Canterbury Side Trail to return the the parking area on Filman Rd.

    Location (Google Maps): Meet at 9:30 am at the parking lot at Mono Community Centre. The centre is located at 754483 Mono Centre Rd. Please park in the gravel surface lot – which is the first lot as you drive in. You might notice the side trail sign at the edge of the lot. It is best to aim for arriving around 9:15, so we can start hiking as close to 9:30 am as possible. Thanks!

    Description

    This hike has been cancelled due to inclement weather.

    Looking to get out on a Saturday but not give up your whole day? Saturday Shorts, a hiking series, will get you out in a small group on a short hike. This Saturday’s 6 km hike takes us from the Mono Community Centre into Mono Cliffs to loop around the South Outlier and then return to the parking area. Bring water and a snack, if desired. There will be a short break. No dogs please. Registrants can expect a reminder/update message one or two days before the hike. Be prepared for snowy, icy, or muddy conditions with icers/crampons and poles as needed. Our pace will match the conditions and might be slower than indicated. The reminder email will include updated notes on trail conditions.

    Description

    This series of five hikes celebrates the glorious sugar maple as we move from winter towards spring. The trails are all in or near the Caledon Hills section of the Bruce Trail and range from 7 to 10 km in length.

    Register individually for one, a few, or all of the Sweetwater Badge Hikes taking place on Mondays. Participants who complete the five hikes will be eligible to receive a Sweetwater badge. (Note: If you wish to purchase a badge, the cost is $10.00 for BTC members and $15.00 for non-members.)

    Hike 4 loops through the Forks of the Credit Provincial Park with a stop at the Credit River. This hike has some big hills and can be strenuous under winter / spring conditions.
