    Join us for a 14 km hike through the Nature Preserve, known for being one of the most challenging and hilly sections of the Bruce Trail. Get ready for a workout, After the hike, those interested are welcome to join me at the Hockley Valley Resort for refreshments.

    Description

    In the spirit of Forest Bathing, we will quietly hike, absorbing the sights and sounds of nature as we go.  At midpoint, we will pause to learn about the history of a stone house, built in 1857 and still standing!  Then quietly return to our start point. This hike is the first of a series of guided hikes along Bruce Trail Side Trails, and other activities, on Oct 6th, as part of the Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club celebration of Bruce Trail Day 2024.

    Description

    Lots of ups and downs passing through the Philip Gosling Nature Reserve, and the beautiful Hockleycrest property before crossing Airport Road into the Cedar Highlands Nature Reserve, a final climb to Sally’s Pinnacle before descending down the Hockley Heights Side Trail.

    43.3 to 51.8  + 0.25 side trails = 9.33 km (Edition 31)

    This hike can be logged towards the “60 for 60th Anniversary” badge

    Description

    This is the third hike in the series and takes us along the Humber River, through Glen Haffy Conservation Area, and into “the Dingle”.

    Please be prepared to help with shuttling hikers at the beginning and at the end of the hike. Bring water and snacks. There will be a break. No dogs please.

    Participants who complete all 6 hikes with the co-leaders, Doris Harper and Elizabeth Ganong, will be eligible to purchase the 60th Anniversary End to End badge and the 60 for the 60th Anniversary badge from the hike leaders at the end of the 6th hike. Hike one, a few, or all 6 hikes. Join any hike, complete the rest on your own, and record the hikes in a log. Check the CHBTC website for submission details.

    Description

    This is a car pool hike. From the meeting point on the 5th Line East Mono, we’ll car pool to the 7th Line parking lot at the Airport Road and 7th Line East Mono. The hike will begin on the Humber Heights property and pass through 12 Bruce Trail properties from Humber Heights to Hemlock Ridges. Along the way, we’ll enjoy this beautiful Ribbon of Wilderness in all its autumn splendor.

    Description

    Let’s rock it out and explore the geology of Mono Cliffs. (This is a repeat of the geology hike offered on August 29th.) We’ll hike mainly at a leisurely pace over the approximately 9.5 km route as we cover many of the highlights of Mono Cliffs Provincial Park. Dr. Kathy Wallace will provide an introductory-level look at the geology of the park that welcomes your curiosity. Plan on a lunch break at a spectacular look-out, a total time out around four or four and a half hours, and having your way of engaging with the trail expanded. This interactive hike was created for a small group. No dogs please.

    This is the last hike in the series!  The trail goes through The Screaming Tunnel, crosses over the QEW on a pedestrian bridge, passes through Fireman’s Park, and ends at the Bruce Trail’s southernmost cairn close to the Niagara River.

    Please bring 2 litres of water, a snack, bug spray, sunscreen, a personal first-aid kit and appropriate clothing.  Hiking boots/shoes are mandatory and poles are suggested.

    Please arrive by 8 am, so we can leave at 8:15 am to shuttle to our starting point.

    Description

    Challenge yourself to complete our 72.4 section of Trail over two days during the peak display of fall colours. Daily bus shuttles and a finisher’s commemorative badge are included in the registration fee. Refreshments and beverages will be served at checkpoints every 7 – 11 kilometres. Participants are expected to hike at a minimum pace of approximately 4 km/hr.

    Description:  The bus leaves at 7:30 am sharp each day. Please plan to arrive at least 20 – 30 minutes before the departure time.

    On Saturday and Sunday, meet at Coolihans Side Road at km 35.0, east of where the Trail crosses the road, 43.937967, – 79.934650.

    From Airport Rd, head east on Coolihans Side Road for 850 metres. Park well off the road on the north side.

    On Saturday, the bus will drop participants off at the northern end of the Caledon Hills section, at County Rd. 8. Hikers will then head south back to Coolihans Side Road.

    Checkpoints are located 11.3 km, 18.2 km, 29.1 km (Cut-off Time:  4:00 pm), and 37.4 km into the hike.

    On Sunday, the bus will drop the group off on Creditview Road at km 0.0. Hikers will then hike north, back to Coolihans Side Road.

    Checkpoints are located 9.5 km, 20.8 km, 27.8 km (Cut-off Time:  4:00 pm), and 35.0 km into the hike.

    Experience the spectacular fall colours while completing our 72.4 kilometre section of Trail over the Thanksgiving long weekend. Bus shuttles for the three days and a beautiful finisher’s commemorative badge are included in the registration fee. Refreshments and beverages will be served at checkpoints every 7-11 kilometres. Participants are expected to hike at a minimum pace of 4 km/hr.

    Note:  As in past years, registration for the extreme 2-day event did not reach capacity. Participants of this early start 3-day E2E option fill the bus. The bus picks up the 2-day participants and then makes a second stop to pick up the 3-day early hikers. Both 3-day E2E events are exactly the same except for different start times.

    Description:

    The bus leaves at 7:45 a.m. sharp on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, the bus and trail angels will transport hikers at 8:30.  Please plan to arrive at least 20 – 30 minutes before the departure time.

    On Saturday, meet at the Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi-International Centre

    Checkpoints are located 9.5 km (Cut-off Time:  11:45) and 20.8 km into the hike.

    On Monday, meet at the Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi-International Centre.

    The bus will take participants to Escarpment Side Road and Heart Lake Road. Everyone will then hike back to the International Centre.

    Checkpoints are located 10.7 km, 18.4 km (Cut-off Time:  2:00 pm), and 25.1 km into the hike.

    Please note that on Saturday and Monday, the final checkpoint (the end of the hike) is slightly off the Bruce Trail. There will be signs in place to direct hikers. Also note that the meeting place on Sunday is different than the other two days.
