  • Frosty Five Winter Blues Badge Series 5/5 Weekend

    Location (Google Maps): Meet at roadside parking, km 16.1 along the southwest shoulder of the Willoughby Road and Escarpment Sideroad intersection. 43.831244, -79.980588 (Map 15, Edition 30)

    Directions: From ON-10 turn west onto Escarpment Sideroad. Drive for 1.6 kilometres to 2521 Escarpment Sideroad.

    From here, we will carpool to the Forks of the Credit Provincial Park. Individuals can also choose to drive alone. Parking is by reservation and paid by car. Closer to the date, participants will be emailed to indicate travel preferences.

    Pace: Medium – 3 to 4 km/hour
    Terrain: Strenuous – hilly with steep climbs and some poor footing
    Distance: 12 kilometres

    Description

    THE MEET UP TIME HAS CHANGED FOR THIS HIKE TO 10:00 am. Beat the winter blues! Register individually for one, a few, or all of our Frosty Five Winter Blues Weekend Badge hikes. Participants who complete all five hikes will be eligible to receive a CHBTC Winter badge and a Sideways badge on the final hike. Hike five explores the trails within the Forks of the Credit Provincial Park.Bring your choice of hydration and snacks. Hiking boots and icers/crampons are required. See January 7, January 21, February 4, and February 18 for details pertaining to the other hikes in the series. (Note:  If you wish to purchase badges, the cost of each badge is $10.00 for BTC members and $15.00 for non-members.)

  • Glen Haffy Conservation Area and Glen Haffy Side Trail loop

    Terrain: Moderate – some hills and/or some poor footing
    Distance: 10.5 km

    Description

    Starting from the parking area on Coolihans Sideroad, {map 17 of the BTC Trail guide}, we will hike the main trail through Glen Haffy and connect to the Glen Haffy Side Trail. We will hike the 4.8 km of the side trail back to the parking area on Coolihans Sideroad. If there is snow, consider bringing snowshoes. Icers, gators and poles highly recommended; trail is hilly and can be slippery. Bring water and snacks.

    Please check email before leaving home as the hike may be cancelled due to weather conditions.

  • Looping Through Island Lake Conservation Area

    Terrain: Easy – mostly flat and usually good footing
    Distance: 11 km

    Description

    From the parking lot on Hurontario St., we will loop hike the Vicki Barron Lakeside Trail, Sugar Bush Trail and Memorial Forest Trails, about 11 km, looping back to the parking lot. Bring water, snacks, icers, poles(optional)

    Following the hike we can visit the near by Fionn MacCool’s Pub and celebrate St. Patricks Day, a few days early.

    Please check email before leaving home; hike may be canceled due to unpleasant weather conditions.

  • Halton Regional Forest

    Location (Google Maps): Parking at: 10 Side Road and 4th Line Nassagaweya (trail entrance to Halton Regional Forest).
    From Highway 401 West, turn right (north) on Guelph Line, right on 10 Side Rd. it will bend northwards and become 4th Line Nassagaweya; park at the bend, roadside.

    Terrain: Moderate – some hills and/or some poor footing
    Distance: 13 km

    Description

    Will hike trails in Halton Regional Forest and Hilton Falls Conservation Area, beautiful trails are relatively flat with some rocky parts. Snack break at Hilton Falls, possibly around fire pit. Will use different set of trails than last hike on Feb. 7th.
    Bring water, snack and a warm drink.
    Dress according to weather, icers are required, poles recommended.

    Check your email at 7:30 am, on the hike day, a message will be sent if there is change due to adverse weather or driving conditions.
