    Location (Google Maps): Shade’s Mills Conservation Area parking lot nearest to gatehouse. Entrance fee per person $7.50, seniors $6. When gate unattended: $15/vehicle. Free admission with annual membership card.
    Directions: Simple access; from Hwy 401 exit 286, take Townline Rd. (Rd. 33) south 4.1 km to its end. Turn right on Avenue Road 1.9 km, to Conservation Area on left. Inside the gate, take first right turn into parking lot.

    Terrain: Easy – mostly flat and usually good footing
    Distance: 12 km loop

    Description

    A pleasant walk in varied woods on the park’s trails, soft underfoot. Ideal to get you moving again after a long pandemic break. Lunch/snack by the beach, to allow plenty of distancing. Some dropout possibilities, consult leader beforehand. No dogs please.

    COVID-19: Please follow the rules given by Public Health and BTC for distancing etc. The GRCA has been cautious in its opening up, and visitors generally respect the rules.

    Description

    We will follow the Main Trail south for about 6 km and then return. Terrain is mostly flat with a few rocky sections.

    Description

    Join me for an exploration of the ecological and historic features of this unique urban national park. This is typically a busy area but we will use some of the less-used trails. A series of loop hikes will allow lots of opportunities for dropouts.

  • Crawford Lake and Forestry Tract

    Location (Google Maps): Iroquoia section, BT map 11, km 102.6, Twiss Road, midway from Conservation Rd. to Derry Rd.
    Directions via Hwy 401 exit 312 (Guelph Line): From westbound, first go left (south) on Guelph Line. Then from westbound or eastbound, turn right (west) on Reid Sideroad 1.4 km, left (south) on Twiss Rd. 5.1 km to roadside parking on left (east) side.
    Directions from QEW/403: Take Guelph Line north 14.8 km, turn left (west) on Derry Rd. (Halton Rd. 7) 1.5 km, then right (north) on Twiss Rd. 1.9 km to roadside parking on right (east) side.
    NOTE RE PARKING: Roadside safe parking is limited. We have permission to park in the Camp Manitou driveway (100 m to the north) between the road and their gate, but ONLY on the LEFT (south) side as you face the gate. Camp Manitou is closed at this time, but their management needs access to enter, using the right (north) side to approach the gate.

    Description

    We’ll follow the main trail north through Crawford Forestry Tract, along the escarpment edge overlooking Nassagaweya Canyon to km 108.5, then south on the Crawford Lake Side Trail to the boardwalk for lunch. Finally, we will continue south to the cars. NOTE Rocky portions: Hiking boots are strongly recommended and poles will be valuable.
