    Description

    Join Marilyn and Joyce on this 2 hour, 6 km hike which is the 8th in the series of hikes for the new “60 for the 60th Anniversary” badge. We will hike west to the 3rd Line EHS and include the Griffith Ravine Side Trail on the return.  Hike one, a few, or all 10 hikes. Join any hike and make up the rest on your own as long as a record is kept of their hikes to submit on completion to obtain their badge. Participants who complete all 10 hikes will be eligible to purchase the “60 for the 60th” badge.

Trafalgar briefly merges with Highway 7 for about 3 km before separating to the right at the village of Silver Creek. At the stop light in Silver Creek, continue north on Trafalgar Road for about 1 km to the entrance of Scotsdale Farm on your right. Drive in about half a kilometre to reach the parking area.

    This is a car pool hike. From the meeting point on the 5th Line East Mono, we’ll car pool to the 7th Line parking lot at the Airport Road and 7th Line East Mono. The hike will begin on the Humber Heights property and pass through 12 Bruce Trail properties from Humber Heights to Hemlock Ridges. Along the way, we’ll enjoy this beautiful Ribbon of Wilderness in all its autumn splendor.

    Description

    Let’s rock it out and explore the geology of Mono Cliffs. (This is a repeat of the geology hike offered on August 29th.) We’ll hike mainly at a leisurely pace over the approximately 9.5 km route as we cover many of the highlights of Mono Cliffs Provincial Park. Dr. Kathy Wallace will provide an introductory-level look at the geology of the park that welcomes your curiosity. Plan on a lunch break at a spectacular look-out, a total time out around four or four and a half hours, and having your way of engaging with the trail expanded. This interactive hike was created for a small group. No dogs please.

    Description

    Challenge yourself to complete our 72.4 section of Trail over two days during the peak display of fall colours. Daily bus shuttles and a finisher’s commemorative badge are included in the registration fee. Refreshments and beverages will be served at checkpoints every 7 – 11 kilometres. Participants are expected to hike at a minimum pace of approximately 4 km/hr.

    Description:  The bus leaves at 7:30 am sharp each day. Please plan to arrive at least 20 – 30 minutes before the departure time.

    On Saturday and Sunday, meet at Coolihans Side Road at km 35.0, east of where the Trail crosses the road, 43.937967, – 79.934650.

    From Airport Rd, head east on Coolihans Side Road for 850 metres. Park well off the road on the north side.

    On Saturday, the bus will drop participants off at the northern end of the Caledon Hills section, at County Rd. 8. Hikers will then head south back to Coolihans Side Road.

    Checkpoints are located 11.3 km, 18.2 km, 29.1 km (Cut-off Time:  4:00 pm), and 37.4 km into the hike.

    On Sunday, the bus will drop the group off on Creditview Road at km 0.0. Hikers will then hike north, back to Coolihans Side Road.

    Checkpoints are located 9.5 km, 20.8 km, 27.8 km (Cut-off Time:  4:00 pm), and 35.0 km into the hike.

Bus shuttles for the three days and a beautiful finisher’s commemorative badge are included in the registration fee. Refreshments and beverages will be served at checkpoints every 7-11 kilometres. Participants are expected to hike at a minimum pace of 4 km/hr.

    Note:  As in past years, registration for the extreme 2-day event did not reach capacity. Participants of this early start 3-day E2E option fill the bus. The bus picks up the 2-day participants and then makes a second stop to pick up the 3-day early hikers. Both 3-day E2E events are exactly the same except for different start times.

    Description:

    The bus leaves at 7:45 a.m. sharp on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, the bus and trail angels will transport hikers at 8:30.  Please plan to arrive at least 20 – 30 minutes before the departure time.

    On Saturday, meet at the Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi-International Centre

    The bus will take participants to the northern end of the Caledon Hills section, at County Rd 8. The group will then hike south, back to the International Centre.

    Checkpoints are located 11.3 km, 18.2 km (Cut-off Time: 2:00 pm), and 26.9 km into the hike.

    On Sunday, meet at km 20.8, the north/east corner of Escarpment Side Road and Heart Lake Road. Park on the north side of Escarpment Side Road, well off of the road, 43.859911, -79.947606.

    The bus will take hikers to km 0.0 on Creditview Road. Participants will then hike back to the meeting place on Escarpment Side Road.

    Checkpoints are located 9.5 km (Cut-off Time:  11:45) and 20.8 km into the hike.

    On Monday, meet at the Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi-International Centre.

    The bus will take participants to Escarpment Side Road and Heart Lake Road. Everyone will then hike back to the International Centre.

    Checkpoints are located 10.7 km, 18.4 km (Cut-off Time:  2:00 pm), and 25.1 km into the hike.

    Please note that on Saturday and Monday, the final checkpoint (the end of the hike) is slightly off the Bruce Trail. There will be signs in place to direct hikers. Also note that the meeting place on Sunday is different than the other two days.

    Description

    This is the fourth hike of the series and involves a lot of road walking but with good views toward Lake Ontario and the GTA. The trail takes us along the Paris Moraine and through a tunnel under Hurontario Street.

    Please be prepared to help with shuttling hikers at the beginning and at the end of the hike. Bring water and snacks. There will be a break. No dogs please.

    Location (Google Maps): Park at Fallbrook Trail / Sideroad 27 (where the Bruce Trail crosses Fallbrook Trail). Do not park near school.
    Driving directions: From Highway 401, north on Trafalgar Road, it will merge with Highway 7 – turn left, after about 4 km, turn right on Trafalgar Road (branching out), turn right on Sideroad 27, it will cross 8th Line, continue on Sideroad 27; at junction with Fallbrook Trail, turn right. Roadside parking – north of km 32.3 on the eastern shoulder of Eighth Line at the southernmost intersection with 27 Sideroad.

    Please arrive by 8 am, so we can leave at 8:15 am to shuttle to our starting point.

    Hike 6 of 7 – Caledon Hills E2E

    More ups and downs throughout this hike. A quick ascent via Hockley Heights Side Trail to the main trail, climbing to Dave’s Pinnacle, across 5th Line to enter a former ski area, crossing through Hockley Valley Resort, through open grasslands, and a conifer plantation, then north on 2nd Line EHS to Hockley Road.

    51.8 to 61.1  + 0.25 + 0.45 sidetrails = 10.0 km (Edition 31)

    This is the fifth hike of the series and follows the recent trail changes around the Forks of the Credit area.

    We meet at 7:30 – hikers should be ready to shuttle at that time. We will take turns and everyone is expected to participate in the shuttling. Any parking costs will be shared.
