    BEAVER BITES BADGE SERIES - Hike #1 of 8 (Please note this is the 1st of an 8 hike series. You must sign up for each hike separately)

    Location (Google Maps): Park at km 2.3, (on the shoulder of 21st Sideroad and the 4th line).
    Map 24, edition 30

    Terrain: Moderate, Some steep sections
    Length of Hike: 8.5km

    Description

    Hike Intercept Side Trail, Loree Side Trail and Len Gertler Side Trail. This hike will also include Bruce main trail making for a nice loop hike.

    This is the 1st of an 8 hike series running on Tuesdays in September and October. Please note hike #5 will be on Thursday that week. Please sign up for each day you plan on hiking.

    If you hike all 8 you will earn yourself the Beaver Bites Badge! ($5 badge fees apply)

    COVID-19 Precautions Before, During and After your Hike

    1. Each hiker joining a Bruce Trail Club organized hike must perform a self-screening check before hiking.
      Find Ontario’s self-assessment tool here: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/self-assessment/
    2. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, stay home.
    3. Personal Protective Equipment:
      • Hikers may choose to wear masks

    Transportation

    It is the Bruce Trail Conservancy’s current policy that car shuttles are allowed.  It is at the discrepancy of individual hike leaders to make that decision.

    Other Guidelines

    1. Arrive 15 minutes before the start of the hike.
    2. Wear sturdy footwear and appropriate attire for the weather and the terrain.
      Hiking poles are a good idea in any season, especially if the terrain is rocky or slippery. In winter, snowshoes or icers/crampons are needed when conditions dictate.
      Wearing appropriate clothing and footwear prevents injuries and shows consideration for a safe and positive group hiking experience.
    3. Always carry I.D. and your health card.
    4. Bring sufficient water and snacks (or lunch if indicated). A minimum of 1L of water is recommended on all hikes, and 3L is recommended for long, challenging hikes in the heat of the summer.
    5. Bring sunscreen and insect repellent (for spring and summer hikes).
    6. Bring your own first aid kit.
    7. Please leave dogs at home.

    Location (Google Maps): Park on the south shoulder of Sideroad 22B, just east of Grey Road 7, near the Blue sign for the Fairmount Side Trail, km 98.3 Map 27, Edition 30.

    Description

    We will hike the Fairmount, Siegerman and Allan side trails with main trail connectors, plus views of Webwood Falls.  Bring water and snacks.

    Location (Google Maps): Park west of km 10.6 (on the north side of the 18th Sideroad, 450m west of the 5th Line) Do not park near driveways. Map 24, Edition 30
    Once 1st side trail is complete we can choose to car pool or follow to other locations

    This hike will consist of moving our cars 3 times to make up a distance of 8km of side trails including,

    1st stop – Margaret Paull (@km 10.6)

    2nd stop – Ken Young (@km 43.5)

    3rd stop – Mac Kirk (@km46.8)

    Pacific Slope Friendship Trail

    Location (Google Maps): Meet in the Hogg’s Falls parking lot, Lower Valley Road, km 67.5, Map 26 Edition 30, to car pool to Johnston’s Sideroad parking, km 74.3, Map 26.

    Terrain: Moderate, Some rocky footing, Some steep sections
    Length of Hike: approx. 7.5 km

    Description

    The Pacific Slope Trail (Sendero Pacifico, Costa Rica) is twinned with this section of the Bruce Trail.  The Beaver Valley Club has sent a number of work parties to Costa Rica to assist with building and repairing the trail.  We will make a visit to the Stew Hilts Side Trail to see the waterfall.

    Map 25, Edition 30

    Terrain: Moderate, Strenuous
    Length of Hike: 9.2km

    Description

    In this loop hike we will follow the main trail east to Metcalfe Rock Side Trail. Take time to explore the rock formations and crevices then continue north on the main trail to Chuck Grant Side Trail. Hike this trail to the mail trail with a stop along the way at Pinnacle Rock then back to our cars.
