Description
If you’ve hiked anywhere on the Bruce Trail, you’ve encountered ferns. Large bushy ones, tiny delicate ones, perhaps growing on vertical rock faces or down low, in the forest understory. Ontario boasts close to 170 different species! For this hike, we will be joined by BTC staff ecologist Mara McHaffie who will help us learn to identify the variety of fern species we will encounter on the Walking Fern side trail. This is a slow-paced outing, with lots of time to observe, discuss and photograph what we observe.
The Walking Fern side trail itself is only 1.4k in total ((linear: there and back), so if time allows, we will explore a little more on the adjacent main trail.
