Description

New to birding, curious about birds, or simply enjoy watching them? This short, easy hike is a great introduction to the basics of bird identification using the “5 S’s”: sound, shape, surroundings (habitat), size, and shade (colour).

Bird enthusiasts, Pat and Rod Sein,  will help us with bird identification,  as we practice our birding ID skills along the way. This is a slow paced, stop and listen hike. Be sure to bring binoculars and your favourite bird ID guide. Birding kits - complete with binoculars and resources can also be borrowed from your local Bruce County library (advance booking recommended).

For those interested in earning one of the Peninsula Bruce Trail Club Birding Badges, confirmed bird sightings on this outing may be added to your list. Learn more about the Peninsula Bruce Trail Birding Badges here: https://peninsula.brucetrail.org/badges/

Along the hike, Pat and Rod will also share information about the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association, their efforts to protect and steward the environment, and learn more about our shared goals.

Children, 10 years and older, are welcome to join the hike with a supervising adult.  Plan on a 1 1/2 - 2 hour "walk, stop, listen" hike experience.

Be prepared for wet, bumpy trail conditions that may be slippery. Weather can be variable at this time of year – dress according to the day’s condition. Bring a light backpack to carry water and personal items.
