Description
Please do not register if you don't have a roommate; also, you and your roommate should register at the same time. Space is running out. Unfortunately, single occupancy isn't possible.
Spend your days exploring the Parc Régional du Mont Orford and your evenings on the shore of Lake Memphremagog. Explore the park on foot or cross-country skis. Join a guided snowshoe hike each day or team up with friends and explore at your own pace (30 km of trails to explore). Or snap on your skis and enjoy self-guided tours on trails groomed for classic (50 km) and skate (26 km) skiing. We might also explore the Parc des Sommets in nearby Bromont. Join us for winter fun in Quebec's Eastern Townships.
Travel direct from Toronto in a luxury highway coach. Bus will depart from 10 York Mills Rd at 7 AM on Friday March 3, 2023 and be back in Toronto between 8 and 9 PM on Monday March 6, 2023.
We'll be staying in the Auberge du Grand Lac in the heart of Magog, walking distance to shops, galleries, pubs, cafés, and a 2.8 km skating trail (lit at night) on the shore of Lake Memphremagog. The Marais de la Riviere aux Cerises with hiking and snowshoe trails (5 km) can also be reached on foot from the Auberge du Grand Lac.
Note to winter hikers/snowshoers: Expect more hills and longer climbs than in southern Ontario. On some routes there could be sustained climbs with elevation gains that are four times as much as Murphy's Pinnacle or two times the Beaver Valley ski hill.
Coach fare is $170 for members, $190 for non-members, and $100 for children 12 and under.
Accommodation is $268.50 (plus tax and gratuity) per person based on double occupancy. This includes three overnights, three breakfasts, and three dinners. The restaurant serves Asian food and has vegetarian options. Note: The Auberge du Grand Lac has 28 rooms so single occupancy will not be possible. If you need help finding a roommate contact Martina.
Trail fees are not included in the above prices. Expect to pay about $20 per day.
Equipment rentals: Cross-country ski equipment is available in the Le Cerisier Discovery and Visitors Centre in the Parc Régional du Mont Orford. Reservation by phone (1-800-665-6527) is mandatory at least 24 hours in advance. Snowshoes and crampons are also available; reservations aren't necessary for them. Ice skates can't be rented in the park or in Magog. Equipment can't be rented in the Parc des Sommets in Bromont.
Registration instructions:
- Complete the online registration form and pay your coach fare to secure your seat on the bus.
- Martina will send you the Auberge du Grand Lac's registration form.
- Once you receive the form you will have 48 hours to complete it, email it to the Auberge du Grand Lac, and pay your deposit. Please pay your deposit (50 % of your stay) at the same time you send in your form.
Cancellation policy: This trip will not be cancelled due to weather. If there isn't enough snow to ski and snowshoe we will hike.
COVID-19 protocol: For everyone's comfort and safety masks (KN95 or N95 recommended) are mandatory while on the bus.
Register by December 10. Bus fare is non-refundable. All applicable fuel surcharges and taxes in effect as of October have been included in the coach fare. However in these volatile times the Toronto Bruce Trail Club reserves the right to charge for currently unanticipated increases in the cost of fuel.

Description
Come out and explore Sydenham Bruce Trail Club’s newest side trail. This is an easy snowshoe on flat terrain. Great for beginners and families. There is a beautiful, huge cottonwood tree on the property. Fun fact - Cottonwoods are the fastest growing trees in North America and can grow as much as 6’ per year. In spring the female cottonwood trees produce a cottony substance that helps with seed dispersal. We will also visit a waterfall.
If you don’t have snowshoes, they can be borrowed for free from the Owen Sound library. If you are unable to register, please call or text Maureen at 647-918-4180.

COVID-19 Precautions Before, During and After your Hike
- Each hiker joining a Bruce Trail Club organized hike must perform a self-screening check before hiking.
Find Ontario's self-assessment tool here: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/self-assessment/
- If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, stay home.
- Personal Protective Equipment:
- Hikers may choose to wear masks
Transportation
It is the Bruce Trail Conservancy’s current policy that car shuttles are allowed. It is at the discrepancy of individual hike leaders to make that decision.
Other Guidelines
- Arrive 15 minutes before the start of the hike.
- Wear sturdy footwear and appropriate attire for the weather and the terrain.
Hiking poles are a good idea in any season, especially if the terrain is rocky or slippery. In winter, snowshoes or icers/crampons are needed when conditions dictate.
Wearing appropriate clothing and footwear prevents injuries and shows consideration for a safe and positive group hiking experience.
- Always carry I.D. and your health card.
- Bring sufficient water and snacks (or lunch if indicated). A minimum of 1L of water is recommended on all hikes, and 3L is recommended for long, challenging hikes in the heat of the summer.
- Bring sunscreen and insect repellent (for spring and summer hikes).
- Bring your own first aid kit.
- Please leave dogs at home.

Description
Join us as we look for clues of spring's arrival on Cape Chin North. We will alternate two routes on a weekly basis, watching for seasonal changes along the wetlands, small inland lakes, woodlands and escarpment shoreline. We will stop, look and listen for the arrival of plants and flowers, birds and other harbingers of spring. Hikes are weather dependent and will be cancelled for treacherous local driving conditions (mud), rain, snow or very strong winds. Always check the road and weather conditions for the entire length of your trip up as local weather can be quite different. Some hikes may recommend snow shoe hikes (I will let you know). Poles and crampons are recommended for navigating wet and slippery conditions typical of spring hikes. It is recommended to bring snacks and water for the hike. A dry set of socks and shoes is a good idea for the trip home. A sweep, topic experts - all are welcome!
Alternating hikes:
Hike1 (Mar 12, 26, Apr 9): From km 109.7 parking, Otter Lk ST (2.2 km), up Cape Chin N Rd (past Tagwerk) to Cape Chin Meadow ST (1km) to Cape Chin Driveway (2.5 km) to house, North along MT back to parked vehicles (3.6 km ) - Total 9.3 km approx
Hike 2: (Mar 19, Apr 2, Apr 16) - From km 109.7 parking, MT North through Cape Chin Woods to Borchardt Parking (2.3 km), Minhinnik ST (1.7km) to Lillie Parking Lot, Take Cotrill Lk ST (1.4km) to Anne and Clayton Robert's St (turn right) back to Britain Lk Rd (1km). At this point we will either a) follow Britain Lk Rd and reverse the route that we took (Minhinnik to Borchardt back along Borchardt to parking) - approx 12km OR b) if conditions are good, we will follow the Main Trail back along the escarpment to Borchardt PL and hike back to the vehicles along Borchardt.

St Paddy's Day in 2023 is on Friday this year but for those of us who have day jobs we'll celebrate with a hike on the Saturday followed by an optional pub stop in the Distillery District after the hike. We will hike to the Evergreen Brickworks by Milkman's Lane and the Rosedale Ravine Trail, north in the Don Valley to Pottery Road and south on the Don Valley Trail to Mill Street and the Distillery District. Effective icers will be mandatory as the trails are very slippery this time of year. This hike and Andrew's hike on Sunday are both urban walks led by Wayne Crockett so join one them or both of them to make it a ""Wayne weekend"" remembering Wayne's contribution to our urban walks. Those who wish may join us for a post-hike refreshment stop at the Mill Street Beer Hall in the Distillery District to toast St Patrick's Day and Wayne. Please let us know in the ""additional information"" field when registering if you plan on joining us at the pub so we have an idea of the numbers.

""Brisk morning walk from Castle Frank subway station to the end of the Beltline Trail, just west of Caledonia Road. Very warmish in the sun. Walked off without the water bottle I'd just filled. Not critical on a day like this but still would have been good to have it.
""The start of the annual Moore Park Ravine Glacier. Bookended by the steeper Milkman's Lane Glacier off Craigleigh Park. I am always impressed by the aesthetic sense shown by the city parks department when they put up fencing along the trails. Strong vibe of industrial waste zone.
""Someone is decorating the trees along the path from The Brickworks north to Moore Park Avenue. That would be most of the pictures I took as I've done the route a thousand times, give or take a few."" Wayne Crockett, December 12th, 2020.
Well, Wayne I have a little catching up to do. This will be my 2nd, so 998 more times to go, give or take a few. I chose this one of Wayne's many urban hikes for this day to allow anyone wanting to attend the St. Pat's Parade to be able to drop out at Oriole Park at 7 km, a short walk from Davisville Subway Station, and still be able to catch the parade which starts at 12 pm. Oriole Park will also be our lunch spot. Hikers will be able to walk over to the Tim Hortons across from the Subway. We will follow Wayne's route except for a slight detour in Mount Pleasant Cemetery to visit the burial place of Glenn Gould and also the last resting spot of another valued and departed leader of our club, Jacqueline Holmes.
I will not be doing the final 2 plus Km of beltline past Allan Road but diverting north through Viewmount Park to Glencairn Station (Line 1).
The Route: https://onthegomap.com/s/8kt5jhve
I will inform if icers are needed. Washrooms at the Brickworks at 2 km, Tim Hortons (Yonge & Chaplin Cres.) at 7 km, and Larry Grossman Forest Hill Memorial Arena at 9 km. Please don't follow Wayne's example and forget your water bottle.
Drop out #1: 7 km Davisville Subway Station. Drop out #2: 9.6 km Bathurst St.
