Description Welcome to the Saturday Seekers, as we’re calling this series of hikes, since the goal is to earn the BV Green Apple End to End badge! All hikes in this series will include a car shuttle, masks must be worn in cars, and please be prepared to take a turn as a shuttle driver. Trails may be wet at this time of year so it’s a good idea to have gaiters handy. Experience with hiking about 20 km in a day at a medium pace is essential. There will be a short snack break in the morning and afternoon, as well as a longer lunch break. Ensure that you have sufficient water. Please read the hiking guidelines below.
Today’s hike takes us along the escarpment above the Blue Mountains Ski Clubs, into Loree Forest, then south through forest and along fields to 12th Sideroad and includes about 2 km of road walking.
COVID-19 Precautions Before, During and After your Hike
Each hiker joining a Bruce Trail Club organized hike must perform a self-screening check before hiking. Find Ontario’s self-assessment tool here: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/self-assessment/
If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, stay home.
Personal Protective Equipment:

Transportation
It is the Bruce Trail Conservancy’s current policy that car shuttles are allowed. It is at the discrepancy of individual hike leaders to make that decision.
Other Guidelines
Arrive 15 minutes before the start of the hike.
Wear sturdy footwear and appropriate attire for the weather and the terrain. Hiking poles are a good idea in any season, especially if the terrain is rocky or slippery. In winter, snowshoes or icers/crampons are needed when conditions dictate. Wearing appropriate clothing and footwear prevents injuries and shows consideration for a safe and positive group hiking experience.
Always carry I.D. and your health card.
Bring sufficient water and snacks (or lunch if indicated). A minimum of 1L of water is recommended on all hikes, and 3L is recommended for long, challenging hikes in the heat of the summer.
Bring sunscreen and insect repellent (for spring and summer hikes).
Description Please complete your online registration and payment accurately and completely, this will ensure that you receive all updates and information on the outing. Check the My Hikes tab to confirm your registration went through.
Join us for Part II of the Beaver Valley end to end series. Today we will be walking the section of the trail between Swiss Meadows and through the Memorial Loree Forest. A bit of road walking today to connect the interesting parts of the trail. This is one of seven hikes that will take in the whole of the Beaver Valley Section of the Bruce Trail. Each will be of 16-17 km in length. They are designed so that anyone of reasonable fitness can complete the End to End and obtain a badge. These will not be fast hikes.
Bring your lunch and at least two litres of water. We will be meeting the bus something after the halfway point so you can leave part of your water supply for pick up later. Don’t leave your lunch, we’ll be eating before we see the bus again.
As this trip will be fully booked we won’t be accepting any car hikers. There won’t be any way to get you back to your cars at the end of the day.
Following the hike we will be stopping in Primrose for a roughly 30 minute washroom and refreshment stop. There are several places to eat at the crossroads.
Pace: Brisk – 4 to 5 km/hr Terrain: Strenuous – Hilly with steep climbs and some poor footing Distance: Approximately 20-25km per day
Description This is a 9 day hike of the entire Peninsula section. Completion of all 9 days will represent an end to end (ETE) of this beautiful section. Badges (optional) will likely be available on the last day. Please be prepared for a strenuous section of trail hiked at a brisk pace. This hike is intended for those who wish to complete the entire section – people who have never hiked this section are very welcome.
Please bring the following: two litres of water, enough food and snacks for energy including your lunch, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), your first aid kit, extra clothing, rain protection if forecast, poles if you use them and of course worn-in hiking boots and your cameras!Bruce Trail maps or the Bruce Trail app are also required. Everyone will be expected to be in great physical condition as this section is challenging but rewarding. The bottom half is not too bad but the top half is considered quite strenuous.
A suggestion for accommodation would be to book something in Lion’s Head for the duration of the ETE but it is entirely up to you. Do not delay in booking something though as accommodations in the Peninsula tend to fill fast.
On the first day we will meet in the parking area for Blue Water Park, in Wiarton. Meet time is 7:45am. We will car shuttle to our starting point on Crooked Toe Rd and hike back to our vehicles. Everyone will be asked to participate in the car shuttles. The schedule for our hikes will be provided to you on the first day – distances will range from 20 – 25km per day. The final day will be a short day and a time to celebrate. Many of the parking areas have paid parking – please share these costs with the others in the vehicle.

If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, stay home.
