This hike takes us south on the white blazed trail exploring the Woodford Escarpment Side Trail and Waisberg Side Trail before stopping for lunch. We will hike through some crevices, see a giant pothole converted into a lime kiln, and other signs of an old pioneer settlement (church foundation) all while enjoying a beautiful escarpment edge. After lunch we will retrace our steps on the white blazed trail and explore the Crevice Springs Side Trail’s crevices formed when dolostone loosened from the face of the escarpment. Ultimately, we will descend through an interesting crevice called the “hole in the wall” before beginning our ascent. Bring a snack or lunch and water. Map: 30 Edition 30

Transportation All hikers are responsible for their own transportation to and from the hike. Currently, there are no car shuttles on hikes – all hikes must be out-and-back or loop hikes. Other Guidelines - Arrive 15 minutes before the start of the hike.
- Wear sturdy footwear and appropriate attire for the weather and the terrain.
Hiking poles are a good idea in any season, especially if the terrain is rocky or slippery. In winter, snowshoes or icers/crampons are needed when conditions dictate. Wearing appropriate clothing and footwear prevents injuries and shows consideration for a safe and positive group hiking experience. - Always carry I.D. and your health card.
- Bring sufficient water and snacks (or lunch if indicated). A minimum of 1L of water is recommended on all hikes, and 3L is recommended for long, challenging hikes in the heat of the summer.
- Bring sunscreen and insect repellent (for spring and summer hikes).
- Bring your own first aid kit.

Description This hike makes use of both white main trail and blue side trails to explore the areas east and west of Kerns Rd. On the east side we will see the views over towards Hamilton Bay and the Skyway and then drop down below the escarpment to hike into Kerncliff Park. Expect a number of hills with easy footing. We will end up at Kerncliff Park to walk the boardwalks around the marsh, hopefully spotting turtles and water snakes and maybe some frogs. From Kerncliff we will hike up Kerns Rd. to rejoin the main trail heading west to King Rd. Expect some rocky sections. Bring water, a snack, sunscreen, insect repellent as well as hiking poles if using. Covid protocols will be in effect.

As we walk through the Young Wetland we may spot wildlife including, potentially, a beaver! Our Trail then takes us along the Escarpment ridge to the Sligo Side Trail. Wetlands, mature deciduous forest, and spruce and pine plantations make this a varied walk. Then we retrace our path along the Escarpment back to the Epping Lookout. If we can find the picnic table area, we will stop for a break. We then continue on the white blazed trail, looping around to km 98.9 where it connects to the Allan Side Trail. Following the white blazed trail south on Conc. 10, we enter the nature preserve on the east side. This area covers mixed terrain and provides a chance to experience a variety of habitats. The trail follows along the banks of a tributary of the Noisy River. After crossing Conc. 10, we proceed through some farmers fields to a great view at the bench. Before we finish our double loop, we’ll phone in our takeout lunch order to iconic Mylar and Loretta’s and we’ll pick it up on our way to the Devil’s Glen Viewing Platform where we can enjoy the scenery over the Mad River valley. Hiking poles are a good idea in any season, especially if the terrain is rocky or slippery. In winter, snowshoes or icers/crampons are needed when conditions dictate. Wearing appropriate clothing and footwear prevents injuries and shows consideration for a safe and positive group hiking experience. - Always carry I.D. and your health card.
- Bring sufficient water and snacks (or lunch if indicated). A minimum of 1L of water is recommended on all hikes, and 3L is recommended for long, challenging hikes in the heat of the summer.
- Bring sunscreen and insect repellent (for spring and summer hikes).
- Bring your own first aid kit.
- Please leave dogs at home.

Afterwards, we will do a loop around Avalanche Pass Side Trail and investigate the Vanishing Wall Side Trail. We will visit the site of the Cessna 205 plane crash, look for the barn foundation stones, limestone kiln remains and many other treasures. You can even search for fossils! We will take in the Glendon Forest, Sunnybrook Park, E.T. Seton Park and Taylor Creek Trail. We will stick to the less well trodden paths close to the Don West Creek, avoiding the heavily trafficked paved route. It is better shaded and fewer cyclists. Registration for this event opens on July 17th. An early departure to avoid the worst heat of the day and you’ll have the afternoon and evening free. As a bonus, if some want to continue we can do an additional 2.5 km along Taylor Creek east of Victoria Park, ending at Warden Subway Station. You can decide when we reach the subway at Victoria Park. Route: https://onthegomap.com/s/blsgct6e Washrooms: A surprising number of washrooms are open along this route between Sunnybrook and Dawes Road just a little east of Victoria Park. What to bring: At least 2 litres of water, snacks and sun protection. Mosquitoes were active in the area last time I went through and we do pass some marshy areas.

The hike begins at the parking lot on County Rd 28(George Johnson Road) and Seadon Road, Springwater. The laid-back, peaceful environment is home during the summer months to many Monarch butterflies who prepare to make their magical journey south. Be prepared for a little history on this hike! We will take some time to view historic buildings at Fort Willow. We will hike approximately 5 km in and then return. Bring a snack or lunch and water. **Strategically located as a supply depot during the War of 1812, the Fort Willow area was also actively used for centuries by First Nations, the fur trade and French explorers as part of a major transportation route known as the Nine Mile Portage.
