We will hike on the Lynn Valley Trail to Port Dover for lunch (fish and chips anyone?), then hike back to our cars. In memory of Mickey Macdonald, who lead this enjoyable hike the first time I did it.

Sometimes last minute changes are made to hikes; registering means you won’t be waiting around the meeting place not knowing why no-one else is there! Enjoy a summer walk along the beach and through some of the areas lovely residential streets. We’ll also walk through Glen Stewart Park, a surprising and delightful ravine. This walk was very much enjoyed mid June so I’m bringing it back for a repeat performance.

Meet at:

Boardwalk at the foot of Woodbine Ave. South side of Donald Summerville Pool.

If coming by subway/bus, go to the Woodbine Station and take bus 92 south, one stop past Queen. Walk a few minutes east to the Donald Summerville Olympic Pool. We meet on the south side, facing the water. There are public restrooms available there. Please be there by 8:50.

Silent Valley Nature Reserve is the sheltered site that includes the remains of an old barn, stone fences and dug well from original Wilson Homestead, signs of glacer meltwater erosion and a variety of fossils 430 M yrs old. Join me for a walk through High Park and along the waterfront to the jewels on the west end, Humber Bay Park East and West. We’ll continue the walk by trail and road back north to Bloor Street between Islington and Royal York.

Meet me in front of the Grenadier Restaurant in High Park for a 10 am departure. If it is open at that point I’ll be inside by 9:30 that morning. It is about a 15 minute easy walk from High Park Station.

We will be practicing social distancing during the walk and I will enforce the 10 person limit.

Directions: From Flesherton, take County Rd. 4 northeast 3.6 km. Turn left (north) on County Rd. 13 and go 12.2 km. Turn right (east) on Side Rd. 7B, which is signposted to Duncan, for 3.1 km. Turn left on Side Road 10D for 4.5 km (including a sharp bend to right) to the hamlet of Duncan. Continue ahead on 9th Sideroad. Parking spot is about 500 metres on the right.

We will hike a loop made by the Chuck Grant Side Trail and the main Bruce Trail, in the Duncan Crevice Caves Provincial Nature Reserve and Kolapore Uplands. The scramble through the middle of Metcalfe Rock is fun, but optional. Bring lunch.

Part 3 of my hikes exploring trails along or in proximity of the Credit River we will begin our hike at Riverwood Conservancy and head north on the Culham Trail as far as Eglington Avenue crossing over to stop for lunch at historic Leslie Log House. We will complete the hike by working our way south via Woodland Chase Trail, Mullet Creek watercourse, Trapper’s Green to Sawmill Valley Trail and Culham Trail across the footbridge to Erindale Park. For hikers wishing to return to their cars you can drop out at the 8 km mark and return to Riverwood by way of Burnhamthorpe Rd for a total 10 km loop hike. Or if you are really psyched and willing to do the full 16 km loop by way of Erindale Park you can stay with the group and I will complete the loop with you.

Meet at:

Islington Subway Stn, MiWay bus 26, Platform D for 9:05 am departure.

For drivers going directly to the start of the hike, follow Riverwood Park Ln from Burnhamthorpe Rd W and park in the Main Parking. Walk through MacEwan Terrace Garden to Visual Arts Mississauga Building and washrooms. Wait for the rest of us to arrive. The hike will begin at 10 am.

Difficulty: Beginner

We will travel past the meadows, wetlands, oxbows and woodlands of the upper East Don Valley River trail to Steeles and return through the pristine remnant hardwood stand of Bestview Park, looking for the salmon running along German Mills Creek. We then travel Finch Corridor Recreational Trail to return along Newtonbrook Creek back to the Leslie Subway Station. Bring lunch and water. Masks recommended. All hikers must adhere to social distancing 2 meters separation.

Meet at:

East Entrance of Leslie Station on Line 4, the Sheppard subway.

Take the tunnel at the east end of the platform following the signs marked "TO LESLIE STREET.". A public parking lot is on the North-West side of Leslie/Sheppard and is accessed from Sheppard Avenue and Old Leslie. Arrive at least 20 minutes before departure.

Overflow parking in the northeast corner of the casino, right across the road from the entrance to the forest. Some rocky sections. Bring a snack and water. You must be a member and pre-register. Part 4 of my Credit River Valley and adjoining trails and a northerly continuation of my hike from Erindale to Streetsville. This time around we will begin the hike from Streetsville’s Memorial Park and follow the scenic Culham Trail 5 km to Credit Meadows Park. There we will do a 2.5 km loop through the peaceful meadow and have our lunch by the Credit River before returning to Streetsville.

Islington Subway Stn, MiWay bus 35, Platform A for 8:45 am departure. Please arrive early.

If you are going directly to the hike you can access Streetsville Memorial Park by way of Church Street, go to the bottom of the hill and turn right into the parking area. We will meet by the park bridge and the start of the Culham Trail. The hike will begin at 10 am. Description

We’ll hike the Trans Canada Trail, view the Eagle’s Cry plaque about the Six Nations Legend of the Peacemaker, and return via the Grand Valley Trail along the Grand River. This is an area of hackberry forest, provincially significant wetlands, and former oak savannah, with several rare plants and animals.
No dogs, please.
