Description

We car shuttle to Blue Mountain Km 6.2, then hike back through Noisy River Provincial Nature Reserve to Lavender. Shorter hike to be determined.

Description

If you ever wondered why we call it the Dufferin Highlands, come out and find the answer.  Today’s hike will follow the main trail by Murphy’s Pinnacle then south to highway 89.  From there we double back up to the Boyne Valley Side trail, connect back onto the main trail northbound to the 1st Line parking lot.  We will then return by the side trails and main trail to make a number of loops  and cross the Boyne River a number of times.    Depending on the weather please have your bug spray, sun block, rain gear.  You will need good hiking shoes/boots, lunch and plenty of water.  This hike will be a moderate pace with breaks but please be prepared to work hard…. there are a lot of hills in this section.

Description

The hike will start at the south end of 4th Concession North (which is off of Highway 26 east of Owen Sound). We will walk to the Bruce Trail and then head east to Woodford. Most of this is along the top of the escarpment but it will involve one steep descent and one steep ascent of the escarpment. There will not be a lunch stop but bring snacks and water. This is the  sixth of our Sydenham Series in 10 hikes.  Registration is required.  The terrain is variable please prepare for  muddy and slippery conditions depending on the weather.  Sturdy boots and hiking poles are recommended.  Please bring adequate water, snacks, lunch and appropriate clothing for the weather. These are all car pool hikes.  Hike today is south bound from the Centennial Tower to the end of side road 22.

Description

We will then shuttle our cars to the Boyne Valley parking area on Centre Road just south of 5 Sideroad at 18.7 n Map 20.  From here we hike along Murmur Lookout ST, Boyne Creek ST, Oliver Creek ST, Moss Haven ST, Enchanted Forest ST, David Hahn St, Rockhill Park ST, and finally Kilgorie ST.

This series hikes the main she blazed trail of Dufferin Hi-Land section along with the blue side trails.  Pre-registration encouraged.  Day hikers are welcome to join us.  At the end of this adventure you will be eligible for the Dufferin Hi-Land’s end to end badge and blue side trail badge. This is Hike #5 of a 6 hike series to earn the Beaver Valley End to End Apple badge.  We will hike rain or shine (unless there is thunder & lightning).  Bring lunch, snacks and sufficient water. Please read the participant guidelines below.

Participant Guidelines

  1. All kms mentioned are according to maps in Edition 29 of The Bruce Trail Reference.
  2. Please arrive 15 minutes before start of hike.
  3. Participants are expected to wear appropriate attire for the weather and the terrain. In summer, sturdy footwear is necessary. In winter, snowshoes or icers/crampons are needed when conditions dictate. It is a good idea to bring these items if there is snow on the ground and the hike leader will advise you as to the best footwear for the day. Hiking poles are a good idea in any season, especially if the terrain is rocky or slippery. Wearing appropriate clothing and footwear prevents injuries and shows consideration for a safe and positive group hiking experience.
  4. Always carry I.D. and your health card.
  5. Bring sufficient water and snacks (or lunch if indicated).
  6. For spring and summer hikes bring sunscreen and insect repellent.
  7. Please leave dogs at home.
  8. Pace: Leisurely = 3km/hr or less, Medium = 3-4 km/hr, Brisk = 4-5 km/hr, Fast = 5+km/hr

We will shuttle our cars to the parking area at Kilgorie where Centre Road and River Road meet at 34.9 km on Map 20.  The return hike will include Bell Look Out ST and the new Melodonna ST.

This is the last in a series of hikes over the main she blazed trail of Dufferin Hi-Land section along with the blue side trails.  Pre-registration encouraged.  Day hikers are welcome to join us.  At the end of this adventure you will be eligible for the Dufferin Hi-Land’s end to end badge and blue side trail badge.
