Description

This hike will begin at Eugenia Falls and end at Hogg’s Falls, two of our Beaver Valley gems.  As we hike along there are great views up and down Beaver Valley.  We pass a beautiful old hemlock tree on the way.

Participant Guidelines

  1. All kms. mentioned are according to maps in Edition 29 of The Bruce Trail Reference.
  2. Please arrive 10 minutes before start of hike.
  3. Participants are expected to wear appropriate attire for the weather and the terrain. In summer, sturdy footwear is necessary. In winter, snowshoes or icers/crampons are needed when conditions dictate. It is a good idea to bring these items if there is snow on the ground and the hike leader will advise you as to the best footwear for the day. Hiking poles are a good idea in any season, especially if the terrain is rocky or slippery. Wearing appropriate clothing and footwear prevents injuries and shows consideration for a safe and positive group hiking experience.
  4. Always carry I.D. and your health card.
  5. For spring and summer hikes bring sunscreen, insect repellent and water.
  6. Please leave dogs at home.

Tuesday Night Not-the-Bruce Trail Hike

Description

This loop hike takes us along a wooded piece of the escarpment and through an old limestone quarry (pre-dynamite days) on a piece of the Bruce Trail.

We’ll meet at the Bruce Trail crossing on Quarry Rd. above Beamsville. To get there, take the QEW east to Ontario St. in Beamsville. Exit onto Ontario St. and take Ontario to King St. in downtown Beamsville. Turn left on King St. and go 2 km to Quarry Rd. on your right. Turn right on Quarry Rd. and drive to the top of the escarpment where you’ll find a wide shoulder bordering a chain link fence on your right. Park in the ample space beside the fence.

Wear hiking boots and bring water. For something a little stronger than water, we’ll go for a pub stop in Beamsville after the hike.

the Beaver Valley. We will traverse the Fairmont Side Trail, sections of the Bruce Trail and the Siegerman Side Trail to return to
the start point. This is a very scenic hike with hilly areas and

Description

Starting in 2009 Eibert Dykstra led a series of hikes on the Conservation Trail in New York State. It took several years to complete the 295km trail meandering from the Pennsylvania border to Niagara Falls where it meets up with the Bruce Trail.  In honor of my first hike leaders – Eibert and Everett Collins (who was on all these hikes) I will lead 3 hikes on the Conservation Trail this year.  The first sections are more rugged starting in the Allegany State Park and extend through the ski area of Ellicottville.   This is the area where we will hike this year. Sections of these hikes will be strenuous.  If you commit to these hikes, pack a lunch, snacks and plenty of water.  Plan on spending a full day away.  We will be carpooling from Fort Erie.  Passport or equivalent is required. km 15.2. We follow the main trail north through a series of steep

This loop hike takes us along the Bighead River on the historically significant Tout Hollow Trail.  We will pass a number of ruins circa 1860’s – early 1900’s including the sawmill site at which naturalist John Muir worked.  Bring lunch and water.

Hiking poles are a good idea in any season, especially if the terrain is rocky or slippery. Wearing appropriate clothing and footwear prevents injuries and shows consideration for a safe and positive group hiking experience.

Hike/Run Description: Hike/run and climb over 2,000 stairs along the Hamilton Escarpment (made up of 6 sets of stairs: Chedoke-289, Dundurn-329, James-232, Wentworth-500, Kenilworth-387, & Uli’s -358) and hike 20 km along the Bruce Trail, Chedoke Radial Trail & the Escarpment Rail Trail and back to the beginning. Please, no dogs. This is not a race.

Runners start at 8:30 am, please arrive by 8:15 to check in. Hikers will start at 9:00 am, please arrive by 8:45 am to check in.

We will car pool back to Duncan Crevice Caves Nature Reserve parking (Km 33.3), then hike east and north past the Duncan Crevice Caves to Pinnacle Rock and on to the top of Metcalfe Rock where we may see some technical climbers. We will then pass through the Kolapore Uplands, finishing the day passing through beautiful farm fields with  potential encounters with cows and horses.  We will have opportunities for fantastic views of Georgian Bay and the beautiful fall colours. Bring snacks, lunch and water.

We will climb up the Cascade Trail to meet the Bruce trail at approximate km 64. We will then take the Mission Rd Side trail to km 60.1 and then return via the main trail.  If you do not wish to climb Blue Mountains, you could meet us at the parking lot near km 64 at 10:15am. Bring lunch, snacks and sufficient water.

Participant Guidelines

  1. All kms. mentioned are according to maps in Edition 29 of The Bruce Trail Reference.
  2. Please arrive 10 minutes before start of hike.
  3. Participants are expected to wear appropriate attire for the weather and the terrain. In summer, sturdy footwear is necessary. In winter, snowshoes or icers/crampons are needed when conditions dictate. It is a good idea to bring these items if there is snow on the ground and the hike leader will advise you as to the best footwear for the day. Hiking poles are a good idea in any season, especially if the terrain is rocky or slippery. Wearing appropriate clothing and footwear prevents injuries and shows consideration for a safe and positive group hiking experience.
  4. Always carry I.D. and your health card.
  5. For spring and summer hikes bring sunscreen, insect repellent and water.
  6. Please leave dogs at home.
