Dundas Valley

Description

This 11 km loop hike will take approximately 3.5 hours and is at a medium pace over easy terrain. There is no dropout point. No dogs please.
Depart: 10:00 am Last parking lot in Dundas Valley C.A. Hike will be modified if it is too hot!
Directions: From the 403 W take the Main St. W. Exit. Turn left onto Main St and travel to Osler Dr. Turn right and Follow Governor’s Rd. Turn Left onto Governor’s Rd and follow to the Dundas Valley C.A. at the edge of town. It will be on your left.
Hike Description: Several loops around Dundas Valley C.A. bring a snack, water, sunscreen and insect repellent.

George Hamilton Day History Walk

Description

This is a special walk in conjunction with City of Hamilton to celebrate George Hamilton Day. Its a very gentle pace and the shorter walk is suitable for families with children six and up. Frequent stops to talk about the history of the Federated Women’s Institute of Ontario and the first meeting held in the museum on Feb 19th, 1897.  Janet Lee, granddaughter of founders Erland & Janet Lee was a long time BTC member and walked the trail twice.   This is a linear path and we will be crossing Ridge Road and taking the Dewitt Road access point.  There will be buses available at the Jones St (4 Km walk) and Lewis St (6 Km walk) to take walkers back to Erland Lee Museum for a free tour and refreshments.  Participants will receive a special Aug 3rd, George Hamilton Day crest. We will meet at the museum at 8:30 to set up the two groups.  Option to return back along same route if you want a longer walk.  Wear good hiking boots as the trail is very rocky.  Bring sunscreen and be prepared for biting insects like mosquitoes and ticks.   Bring water and snacks for the walk.  Light lunch will be provided by the City of Hamilton for this very special event.

Description

Spend a relaxed day in this recreational area on the Eramosa River. We’ll explore the interesting geological features including potholes and caves (challenging climb into North America’s second largest pothole is optional) as well as some of the area’s history as evidenced by the ruins of the Harris Mill.

Meet by the playground on Park Avenue in Greensville. Directions: take Hwy 8 north from Dundas or Brock Rd south from Hwy 5. Park Avenue is just south of Hw8 and 50 metres west of Bullocks Corners.

Hike with optional swim. We will hike from Greensville along Spencer’s Creek and then clockwise around Christie Lake. At the beach we will swim (optional) and have a picnic lunch. Bring towel and swimsuit. There are changing rooms and a snack bar.

Conservation Trail #1- Allegany State Park

Description

Starting in 2009 Eibert Dykstra led a series of hikes on the Conservation Trail in New York State. It took several years to complete the 295km trail meandering from the Pennsylvania border to Niagara Falls where it meets up with the Bruce Trail.  In honor of my first hike leaders – Eibert and Everett Collins (who was on all these hikes) I will lead 3 hikes on the Conservation Trail this year.  The first sections are more rugged starting in the Allegany State Park and extend through the ski area of Ellicottville.   This is the area where we will hike this year. Sections of these hikes will be strenuous.  If you commit to these hikes, pack a lunch, snacks and plenty of water.  Plan on spending a full day away.  We will be carpooling from Fort Erie.  Passport or equivalent is required. Description

This is a special invitation from Hamilton Naturalists Club to join them on a joint Dundurn Castle Museum/HNC  tour of the trees of Hamilton to help celebrate their 100th anniversary.  Ray Lowe was the Conservation Director and Ontario Field Naturalists representative with Hamilton Naturalists’ Club when he first proposed a trail to connect Niagara to Tobermory along the escarpment to other naturalists in the late 1950s.  Robert Bateman was also on the HNC board as the Wood Duck editor at the same time and joined Ray.

Paul O’Hara, author of “A Trail Called Home: Tree Stories of the Golden Horseshoe” is leading a walk through the beautiful grounds of Dundurn Castle. He’ll talk about the beautiful oaks and other giants that grace this historic site. Paul is promoting his new book, A Trail Called Home: Tree Stories From The Golden Horseshoe, published by Dundurn Press (https://www.dundurn.com/books/Trail-Called-Home).

Tour begins at the North-East corner of Dundurn Park, beside 25 Tecumseh Street. Walk will take place outdoors over grass lawns and gravel pathways. 

Difficulty: Gentle with some standing.

Free but limited to 35 people.

Come Explore the beautiful Sixteen Mile Creek Valley in Oakville. This valley is a jewel in the middle of a busy urban area. The Sixteen Mile Creek winds its way through steep cliffs and woods. We will walk along the upper trails and then down onto the lower trails beside the creek. Some long and gentle hills. Bring a snack, water, insect repellent and sunscreen. We will carpool to the parking lot at 15 / 16 Side Road in Singhampton for a tour of the Nottawasaga Bluffs. The hike is fairly
flat and the area is mostly wooded, and there are many great

Description

Meet at Davidson Blvd Side Trail. We will hike west along the main trail and then loop around the McCormack Trail (Dundas Valley CA). This is a short hike and includes two short but steep hills. Beautiful views of Dundas Valley and the Escarpment.

Directions: Take Governors Rd west from Dundas. Turn right on Davidson Blvd. Take Davidson Blvd north until it intersects with Newcombe Rd. The side trail is at this intersection.

Climb the steps and walk the streets and trails of West Hamilton. We will hike sections of the Bruce Trail as well as the trails of Iroquoia Heights. There will be weekly walks all summer. Now we are all getting older we are not hiking as fast as we used to. Hike is cancelled if there is heavy rain.
