Description

Meet at the cairn in Queenston at 7:45am. Carpool to Artpark State Park in Lewiston, NY. Bring water, lunch & valid ID (current passport or upgraded DL) to enter the US.
Hike will be led by a state park naturalist and will include historical information. Badges available. Health insurance is the responsibility of the participant.

Iroquoia End-to-End in 11 parts will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays over the summer and fall. Hikes are not in sequence.
For this section, we will meet at Glover Mountain ST (21.8 KM in Bruce TrailReference Guide) then shuttle to Wentworth steps 33.4. We will walk “down” the steps and return to our cars stopping for lunch at Felkers Falls along the way. Please pre-register with me to receive news of any changes to our plans.

Songbird Nature Reserve

Description

This will be a 3.5 hour work party helping to clear garlic mustard to create a 5 metre garlic mustard free corridor on each side of the trail. Work will not extend beyond 1:30 p.m. Because of limited parking on Airport Road, we’ll meet at the corner of Finnerty Sideroad and Innis Lake Road and shuttle to the Songbird Nature Reserve. There is no dropout point. No dogs please. There will be a refreshment/pub stop afterwards.

Explore both popular and hidden spots on the Bruce Peninsula. These outings provide a leisurely appreciation of the environment with an emphasis on the flora.

The alvar features rare Lakeside Daisies, Dwarf Lake Iris, Polygala, Seneca Snakeroot and Starry False Solomon’s Seal. At the Crane River rest stop there are Nodding Trilliums, Bulbet and Maidenhair Spleenwort Ferns.

with great views to the north. The hike terminates at Blantyre.

We can park in the lot at Walker’s Line and No2 Side Road. Parking pass required. Hike up the Main Bruce Trail into the conservation area. Escarpment Edge Trail, South Loop/Bruce Trail and North Loop.
No dogs. Bring water, hat, snack/lunch at Brock Harris Lookout. There is a short ladder as we ascend the escarpment. Pub/refreshment stop afterwards.

We will carpool to km 7.0 on the 10th Concession in the Blue
Mountains section, leave some cars and then proceed to the

of Lavender. We will hike through the beautiful Noisy River Valley, then cross County Road #9 and continue on the new trail
section (starting at the BTC property formerly part of the Gardner farm) which now connects the Bruce Trail from County Road
#9 to the 10th Concession. Bring water and a snack.

A botanical walk, a loop from the main parking lot at Hogg’s Falls to see some of the bottomland plant species as well as travelling through the deciduous forest to take a look at some of the ephemeral spring flowers along the upper valley edge. Bring water and a snack.  After the hike, Claire will be offering a visit to Ontario Flora’s Native Plant Nursery, if anyone wishes to continue to the nursery it is a short drive away (15 minute drive).

Discovery Badge Blitz Hike 3 - Caledon East

Description

Hike Three of the “Discovery Hike Badge Blitz” is a 10 km shuttle hike. We will explore main Trail, Mountainview Road Side Trail and Songbird Side Trail. Bring your choice of hydration and snacks or lunch. All are welcome to join this hike. Hikers completing all three “Badge Blitz” hikes will receive their badges at the end of the hike. (The badge cost is $5.00.) There is no dropout point.  An optional refreshment/pub stop is planned for afterwards.

We will be hiking the Mountain Brow Side Trail to where it meets the main Bruce Trail.  Then we will be returning on the main Bruce Trail, and then the fun part!  We get to climb up the Wentworth Stairs (all 500 of them!)   After the hike, there will be an optional ice cream stop.  This is the only time of the year that we have enough daylight to do a 10-11km hike as an evening walk, so come on out and enjoy the long evening daylight!  Hike Cancelled, if there is heavy rain.

Directions: Take Concession Street to Upper Wentworth and turn north toward the escarpment.  Keep right and the road becomes Mountain Park Ave. Park in the first parking lot on the left or on the street and we will meet at the top of the Wentworth Stairs.

Description

We will follow Grindstone Creek through the park and then onto the RBG property up and down the trails of Hendrie Valley to the toll ponds and back. Hopefully we’ll see lots of beautiful warblers passing through on their way north.

Description

From meeting place, we’ll carpool to km 68.2 at the entrance to the Mono Kiln Edge property, explore Mono Kiln Edge, and depending on time, either walk or drive to the Vallis property and look for flora and fauna of a meadow habitat. Bring binoculars, camera and nature guides in order to identify and record flora and fauna of these nature reserves. There should be opportunities to see bluebirds. There is no dropout point. No dogs please. There will be a refreshment/pub stop afterwards.

loop hike overlooking the Beaver Valley. Following the hike we

enjoy beverages and hors d’oeuvres followed by a potluck, the
setting sun and the longest evening of the year. Please bring bug
spray.
This hike and potluck will be cancelled if there is rain in the
forecast.

Along the way we will stop for a leisurely picnic before returning

We will carpool to Tim’s in Wiarton in the Peninsula section,
then arrange a shuttle, leaving a car at km 61.0 before proceeding to the start of the hike at Jackson Cove Rd km 51.0. From
here we will hike north on the main trail with great lookouts
over Georgian Bay and through Alvar areas, before we take the
ladder down to the shoreline of Rush Cove and return to the
starting point via the Pease Side Trail and the Jackson Cove Side
Trail. A shorter hike can be arranged, depending on the availability of cars. This would also start at km 51.0, include Rush Cove
and end at the parking lot at km 61.0. Bring water, lunch and
good footwear.
