    Description

    Celebrate Bruce Trail Day with an exploratory hike in the Metcalfe Rock area.  This is an imposing piece of escarpment which you’ll see from below and above.  Watch rock climbers tackle the heights, see the fall colours across the landscape.  There may be an opportunity to do a bit of scrambling yourself if the group feels energetic.

    Description

    The hike will go through the Walters Falls Management Area and we will walk along both sides of the river taking in Walters Falls itself.

    Participant Guidelines

    1. All kms. mentioned are according to maps in Edition 29 of The Bruce Trail Reference.
    2. Please arrive 10 minutes before start of hike.
    3. Participants are expected to wear appropriate attire for the weather and the terrain. In summer, sturdy footwear is necessary. In winter, snowshoes or icers/crampons are needed when conditions dictate. It is a good idea to bring these items if there is snow on the ground and the hike leader will advise you as to the best footwear for the day. Hiking poles are a good idea in any season, especially if the terrain is rocky or slippery. Wearing appropriate clothing and footwear prevents injuries and shows consideration for a safe and positive group hiking experience.
    4. Always carry I.D. and your health card.
    5. For spring and summer hikes bring sunscreen, insect repellent and water.
    6. Please leave dogs at home.

    Description

    This hike will pass the historic Old Mail Road which was used from the 1830’s until the 1850’s.  We then continue until the culmination of the hike at the spectacular Metcalfe Rock, where a bit of scrambling will be optional!

    Fall Colours Photography Hike

    Location (Google Maps): Depart: 9:30 a.m. from roadside parking on 2nd Line Mono at entrance to Mono Cliffs Provincial Park.
    Directions: Take Hwy 10 north to Dufferin Road 8, about 10 km north of Orangeville. Follow Road 8 to Mono Centre, then continue north on the 2nd Line to the end of the road. Please park on the east shoulder of the road.

    Description

    A scenic photo hike around the loops of the Mono Cliffs Provincial Park, including McCarston`s Lake. We will have ample opportunity to photograph the fall colours, see a variety of forest types and geological features, and with excellent views from lookout points. Bring a camera and a tripod or monopod. Refreshments afterwards. Please register beforehand with Hamish so we can reschedule in case of inclement weather.

    This loop hike will start at the East Linton Side Trail just north of Owen Sound and will follow the main trail, the Ron Savage Side Trail and the Frank Holley Side Trail.     Join us for a shuttle hike from Crawford Lake to the Calcium Pits on the Main Trail, the Crawford Lake Side Trail and the Leech Porter Side Trail.  Be prepared for a giant snapping turtle in Crawford Lake and turkey vultures over the Nassagaweya Canyon.  Comfy lunch at the Visitors Centre.  Bring hiking boots, 2.5L of water, lunch and sunscreen.  We will start at 9 am sharp so please arrive by 8:45 am to sign in prior.  Pre-registration required at stuarthikes@gmail.com.

    Humber Valley Heritage Trail

    This hike will explore Hockleycrest Side Trail and Harmony Side Trail and the main trail north east of Airport Road and 5 Sideroad. In the winter, some of these trails are groomed for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. We will also pay a visit to the Dr. Philip Gosling Nature Reserve, which is located nearby.

    Description

    Map 34, start approx. 142.0 . Come and enjoy this hike along the top of the escarpment, through a fissure and a portion of the dolostone outcrop with beautiful views of the islands.
